Let Brees go to NO and trade up to #2 to select Leinart. The Saints want to select DE Mario Williams if they grab Brees.Williams will be there at #4

If that happened, that would be fine by me.

John Clayton reported last night on ESPNEWS that NO will select Mario Williams if they sign Brees

They'd be able to get Williams at 4 and pocket some extra Jet picks is so inclined....

We would have to give up more than #4 overall to move up though. Maybe a 4th round?

There is no way that we're going to keep Chad, sign a QB like Ramsey AND draft a top 5 rookie on top of it. That would be ludicrous and an inglorious waste of money on a position where only one guy can play at a time.

    That's right

Don Banks has the Jets taking DE Mario Williams at #4

With the Jets pursuing a trade for Washington quarterback Patrick Ramsey or willing to consider Leinart or Cutler, they aren't going to be the team that gambles on Texas standout Vince Young. If they get their QB, Williams would be the ideal upgrade once the Jets finally trade franchised defensive end John Abraham

I'm not so sure I agree with you. We needed to keep Chad so that the salary cap impact was not huge this year, his contract is now below 3m with incentives. Ramsey is under contract for this year at 1.7m. Drafting a QB this year and letting him sit and learn under Chad/Pat is not out of the guestion. You don't get many opportunities to get your QB of the future, if the FO is sold on one of these guys they must get it done...

Then what happens with Bolly? We DON'T need 4 QB's on the roster, we have MANY other holes to fill.

Well in the scenario I laid out previously he would be the odd man out. But I am not totally against some of the ideas brought up earlier in this thread and sticking with Chad, Bolly and a rookie. To me, Bolly and Ramsey are the same players. Neither great, neither that bad, just average backup types...

I follow you Electric. But I don't know if Bollinger will stay. Mangini and Schott have no expereince with him. They may just decide he's not good enough and let him go. Right now, I'm fine with keeping the two we have and drafting a QB early. For free agency, we should spend whatever we would spend on a vet QB and use it on an o-line. I think that should be our next focus.

Ofcourse mario williams will be the suitable replacement for abraham, one of the several things i have been thinking.

He would be a their guy, and would benefit from it tremendously. I know its yet another first rounder for the Dline, but you know what? Defense wins championships, and williams and ellis to big DE's along with whoever we sign as a NT and robertoson, shit i would be seeing atleast 2 sacks a game from that DLine.

Ramsey our QB and get williams at #4, and with the other first, hopefully we can get mangold, and second we get gilles maybe.

We would be set, in the positions that needed to be filled before any others. Then we can focus on WR, and depth.

No, I don't agree. I don't think the front office is counting on Pennington at all - they just resigned him to ease the cap hit. He and Ramsey would battle it out for the starting position this year, and if either was effective, maybe the Jets could even have a winning season (note I said maybe). Either way, the drafted QB would be given a real opportunity to start in 2007, and if he makes it, Pennington and/or Ramsey are gone.

I don't claim to know for sure how good Leinart, Young, or Cutler are going to be, but if the front office loves one who is left at #4 you have to go for him - franchise QBs come few and far between. The real question is whether they would be right in their assessment of the future potential of those guys.
