What we say about the Jets are what others say about their teams after a loss. Shit happens, Jets are not playing well right now. They will right the ship.
There are certainly parallels, but I'm not sure what exactly you mean by "righting the ship." I picked the Jets to get between 9 and 11 wins this season back in the first week of September, which certainly looks like a good prediction at this point. The schedule was front-loaded with easier games, so what looks like a collapse could just be the team not being good enough to beat the best teams. One thing for sure - at this point it's hard to imagine any team but the Patriots representing the AFC in the Super Bowl.
I think the Ravens have the best shot at beating the Patriots in the AFC playoffs. As for the Super Bowl, the Saints are my best hope right now. I actually would expect the Saints to win.
What we think about any of these teams right now doesn't matter one bit. The Pats are playing amazing right now no doubt, will they keep it up for the next two months? I don't think it possible to keep their current pace even with Brady playing out of his mind.
I have a bunch of family in the Philly area who are Eagles fans, so I'd be okay with that. Actually, I'd prefer 56-0.
Eh, the Pats are hot and a very good team, unbeatable? Nah, not by any stretch. That defense is very suspect. A team like San Diego or Baltimore could very well beat them.
I have no idea what will happen, but I find the easy dismissals of the Patriots pretty funny. They've won 5 in a row, 4 of them against teams with a combined record of 34-13 against the rest of the league, by an average score of 39-18. If that was the Jets, I'm pretty sure that EVERYONE would say that they were the prohibitive favorites to get to the Super Bowl.
Their play to this point certainly makes them the favorites right now. 3 weeks ago nobody would have had the pats as the definitive favorites and I don't see why it is guaranteed that they will play this well the next 3 weeks and into the playoffs. Brady is great but he has been playing even better than normal for 6 weeks or so. I wouldn't put it past him to stay hot for 2 more months but if he hits a bit of a cold streak can that defense hold up without instant 14 point leads?
You don't get those leads unless your defense comes out and stops the opposition 2 or 3 times. The Pats went 3 and out to start the game. The Pats right now, are a team on a mission. Belichik used that pathetic Browns game as a springboard. Right now, the Chargers are the team I'd like to see the least in the playoffs. They are the one good team they've beaten that really outplayed them (other than the Jets in the 2nd half of game 2).
A team can suck all season and enter the playoffs on a hot streak and dominate. Heck, see last year if you want an example. What this team is doing now is ending the season and entering the playoffs (if they can get there) on a downwards slide. If this trend continues, the Jets are out in round one. I'd be shocked if they make it to the 2nd round.
Right, not the point I was getting at though. 2-3 stops before being given a lead is one thing. What about a game where the Pats are trailing at half? Is the defense going to be able to hold up enough to give the offense a chance? If a team can slow down the Pats offense for awhile I would be interested in seeing how well the defense plays then.
At least the majority of posters are talking about the playoffs and Super Bowl instead on the draft in April.
Pats trailed the Ravens, tied in 4th, won in OT after both teams had a punt fest. Meaning the Pats managed to hold them to no or few points for awhile, after trailing. The Ravens aren't the best offense, but the Pats defense has come quite away since then. And giving the dismantling of the top defenses recently, at THIS moment, its hard to imagine the Pats needing to play from behind. But I do agree, if you want to beat them you need to manage an early lead and sustain very long drives keeping Brady off the field, while playing mentally smart offense because the Pats D will give you yards all day but WILL get turnovers. Their O has set the NFL record without giving up a turnover in 5 games.
I'd like any team that isn't from Boston or Miami to win if not the Jets. Even the Vagiants would be better than the fucking Patriots.
