First, let me preface by saying I can't stand when posters start random 'doom and gloom' threads after a loss, especially this season. This team is 9-3, but by these boards and the radio today you would think this team pulled a 2007 Mets and choked the season away. But I'll post anyway. I was talking with a colleague at work today and he brought up the fact that the long layoff between games probably hurt the Jets because of how much time Belichick had to prepare for the game. After I agreed with him, I took the flip side of that approach and realized that this team is terrible in between layoffs. I'll give this team a Win for week 1 of last season because of the time between the last preseason game and week 1, but other than that the results are pretty putrid. Loss to Jacksonville coming off last years bye Loss to the Ravens this season between the last preseason game and week 1 matchup Loss to the Packers coming off a bye Loss to the Patriots coming off the layoff between Thanksgiving and last night. The question I am proposing is, does Rex need to alter his approach for prepping for games with the extra rest? Is it possible this coaching staff just totally overprepares for games, where it actually starts to hurt the team? Idk, agree with me or not, just something interesting I thought of today, thought I'd share the wealth. Sorry if this was already posted.
I mean the extra few days for Thanksgiving are completely understandable, since they didn't get to be with their families during Thanksgiving. For the bye week, maybe they should hold light practices instead of just giving them the whole week off. And the Jets lit up the Texans (decent squad) week 1 2009 and stomped the Bucs (garbage team but we were using Clemens) after the Thursday night game vs. the Bills.
I think it's pretty obvious that the answer is yes - what they've been doing clearly isn't working (it isn't only that they've lost all 3 times this year, it's how horrible they've looked doing it, especially on offense). It's a moot point this year, of course (unless you think that the Jets will catch the Pats, which I don't). Edit: and I'm not necessarily referring to letting the players rest - it could be the way the coaching staff works during the extra days, but IMO something is not working.
this is a team with a very young QB and a lot of "immature" players I think this team needs as much structure as possible so I def. prefer them not to have long layoffs.
We need to change the playcalling ASAP we will never win being as predictable as we are and guess what guys are Defense is in serious trouble,we have NO safeties worth a S$$t.No pass rush and only one elite guy on Defense maybe 2 if you want to count Harris.Fast track to nowhere unless we fix alot of things.Rex also needs to stop fillin their heads with "The best team ever" slogan.Maybe this has all been said before cuase there has been bout 4826 threads and posts in the past 24 hours but god damn its true.
