The Browns taking Mayfield was shocking to me, but I find it pretty odd that the Giants and Broncos didn’t seem to have much interest in Darnold. Do they know something the Jets don’t? It’s pretty crazy how last year at this time Darnold was considered the second coming of Andrew Luck, and now that the Jets drafted him the pundits are talking about all of his flaws.
the Broncos never had a chance to draft Darnold. If they did, I suspect they'd have taken him. So really it only boils down to the Giants passing on him. That was their decision. Barkley is a stud, but long term I think it was a mistake on their part, and good fortune on ours.
No, it doesn't. The Giants believe Eli has a few years left in the tank and are trying to win now. The Broncos took Lynch in the first round 2 years ago and might have hopes for him. They also signed Keenum who can hold the fort down while they look for their FQB next year if Lynch isn't the guy.
Apparently, the Giants didn't want to trade down from 2. Giants might regret it, but we have to see what we have in Darnold first
I guess that depends on their expertise finding QBs. The Giants as an entity made a huge trade for Eli, and the guy won two SBs against New England. We're those same guys drafting this week? Have they done anything since Eli? And then there's Elway. He traded for Peyton. Smart. Peyton is gone. What has he done since then?
Btw Jethro is basically the most obvious troll on this forum, but it appears he's doing it to boost forum traffic. Whatevs. I guess it beats posting on Scout.com
Two reasons I don't worry too much about the total turnover number. 1) I think the fact is offensive line was atrocious helps explain his off season, he had to do a lot more improve and for the most part he did it well. Put him behind a decent line and he would have replicated the first year. 2) A lot of the turnover were fumbles and other good QB's coming out had the same problem. Let our QB expert tutor him and Josh will give him advice to take better care of the football. the fumbles don't scare me as much as INT's I think there is a lot of ability and potential with Sam, let him use this year to soak in from a 39 year old QB and get tutored by Bates who is passionate about QB's.
The Broncos invested a lot of money in Keenum which makes one think maybe they did not want any of the QBs. There were rumors that Elway really loved Mayfield and rumors they tried to trade up for Darnold. But it also has been said they were going to trade down unless Chubb was there. What do you believe? All we really know is they had no interest in Rosen or Allen. As to the Giants it said that Gettleman values short term success over long term success. In other words he cares more about his job than what's best for the Giants. But, one could also argue it said he did not believe the 3 QBs drafted after his spot were worth the 2nd pick.
Have we really seen the type of QB draft expertise from Elway to believe that it was a master move to sign a career backup for starter money?
I would tend to side on the he is not as smart as he thinks he is but I am biased against Elway. He looks like a stuck up frat boy to me. He would have been a great villain in Animal house or Revenge of the Nerds.
Not sure why I should care what the Giants or the Broncos did during the draft. Neither one is in our division and this being a Jets forum, I'm gonna move this thread to the NFL section. Jethro? Take note: Jet forum is for Jet News Only. Consider this your warning.. Mgmt.
