No. Ferguson and Jones would give us excellent pass protection but would be murder and then some to our running game. It could work out if, and only if, we get a pair of run mauling OGs and a TE that is excellent in the run blocking department (a la Anthony Becht). Both Ferg and Jones have a weakness in run blocking and guys like Julius Peppers could have 7 tackles a game against us.

In the thread title you say LT, but in the poll title you say RT. Which is it?

I didn't see anything special from Jones or basically any of our lineman last year. base on group performance no.

Well, then no, he can't. It's fairly obvious why not, as it's been stated on this board ad nauseum.

DBrick would get it done at LT and Jones could be a solid RT if he adds some bulk. RT was his natural position.

I'm not a Brick fan so I voted Yes. The thing is, I think Jones may benefit from the new CS. He is still green enough to be taught good NFL technique. It's all about the coaching at this point with him. If someone takes the time to really teach him how to be a LT, then I think he has the ability to do it.

As has been said, Brick can't block the run very well. Given that we have no stud at RB now, I can't see taking a risk of giving defenses every excuse to load up and pressure our QBs, knowing they can stop the run easily enough. That happened last year, and we saw how that worked for our gunners.

TE was actually his natural position and he is still learning the ins and outs of OT... I just don't see the sense in taking a young, athletic LT that is inexpensive and has a ton of potential (because he played TE until 3 years ago he is still learning how to block on every play) and putting him at RT when he's going to be a project at best. Marcus McNeill or Eric Winston at 29 or 35 would be much better as they have the run blocking abilities to be a good RT in the NFL.

RT was NOT his natural position.

Yes of course, he exceled last year and can only get better. I don't know why anyone would think we are taking D'Brick, I have been betting like crazy with people saying we aren't taking him. I'm gonna make alot of money.

Let me rephrase that, he was the bright spot of our awful o-line last year.

    HUH?

An orange pilon at a road construction site exceled more at blocking people than Jones did.

The only difference between the 2 was Jones wore green instead of Orange.

Yes, but not as well as Ferguson can play it. Anybody who rates Jones' performance last year as anything better than mediocre is revising history. Maybe he looked better to some people because the unit around him was so dismal, but he would not have been starting for a playoff team.

I believe that he will get better, but he will never be as good a pass protecter as Ferguson. It's just a fact.

    Let me rephrase again.

He was a turnstile last year.

Okay your right my mistake like an hour or so after I posted that I realized his natural position was TE. I still think he can develop into a solid RT with this new coaching staff and if he adds on some bulk.

Rt isn't Jones' natural position, but he could ply there if we run a west-coastish offense. I personally think he can get it done at LT which makes Brick an overkill pick.
