Martin is getting older but in 2004 that wasnt a problem. He was the leading Rusher. Do you guys ever think he can put up over 1000 yards again? I sure as hell think he can but it seems like his age is keeping up with him. What do you guys think?
I dont think so.... I think we will draft a RB early next year and CM will stay one more year after that. So two more years.
yeah that was i thinking. I dont think we draft another RB tho we have Houston and he didnt pretty good for running behind a banged up line. And Washington is pretty go i live really close to FSU and i have seen him play. He has great great speed and could be a good back in the NFL but i dont think he is better than Houston i think Houston will be a 1000 yard back for a long time after martin calls it quits.
We have so many running backs on our roster-noone will get 1000 yards. We will split carries probably between 4 RBs and for this reason Martin will not be banged up after this year so he will be able to come back for at least one more after this one.
Yes, Curtis said himself about a year ago that he planned on playing two more years with 2006 being the second year. He could probably play longer if he recovers completely from the knee injury but I think he wants to go out on his own without facing the real possibility of being released. I expect Martin to have a better year than we think and hang it up... That being said I believe 'Tangini' is real anxious to get Cedric Houston some decent carries this year to see what they have. Right now RB is probably at the top of their list for next year's draft...
I think its his last year in a Jet uniform, anyway. There's always a spot somewhere for a HOFer until the wheels fall completely off. I hate to see that happen, but it seems likely.
Next year will be the going away tour. He'll help our next RB fit into the NFL and our system. I could almost see him coaching next year as a backs coach if he so chooses.
I couldn't vote in the poll above because so much depends on Martin's mindset. Emmitt Smith played nearly 5 years longer than he should have and he hurt his teams for most of that time. I can make arguments either way about whether Curtis would retire gracefully or not if his skills critically declined. Even if they just descend slowly from where he is he becomes a liability very shortly.
I'm hoping he retires too. He's been a great player but he won't be here when we compete, and if he is, he won't be the great player he was. He's really just delaying our young backs from developing if he wins the job for opening day. A true warrior, but his time has really come.
I think Martin will celebrate his 50th birthday by rushing for over a 100 yards for the New York Jets
