just curious, because I know he is the most well-known Jets fan out there...kinda the Jets "OFFICIAL" # 1 fan, but I also know that he is kind of a controversial figure, so....what do you guys think of Fireman Ed? and does he post here?!

He was at the Dolphin game trying to get the crowd all pumped. Not sure if it was because of the way we played or people are over him but fans basically ignored his request to do the chant. At some point he gave up. I have a love/hate relationship with him. He is a hard core fan but I don't consider him the biggest and best fan that he was anointed, he's no more a fan of the Jets that I am. He's retired and has time to travel and feels the need to have people follow his instructions. He's gottan to tight with the Jets ownership for my taste but I don't hate on him like others.

He’s a Jets fan like us, only he’s known in the media as a super fan because he leads the chant. He’s our unofficial mascot.

Could be worse, we could have this:

Then again, at least there’s some comedic value there..

The irony just dawned on me.

The Jets are a perennial dumpster fire, and their mascot is a fire fighter.

Sure, why not. He's been pretty much a symbol of Jet fandom worldwide. No matter what network is broadcasting a home game, they have at least one shot of him. The J-E-T-S chant is unique. No other team has a chant like that as far as I can tell. So the story goes, he stopped attending games when it was clear the Jets were going to tank last season, which I don't blame him for, but was talked into returning by Chris Johnson after the Jets drafted Darnold. So yeah, I'll give the guy credit for being a big fan.

At this point he only shows up when things are good. Then when things go bad he disappears. So he's basically our version of Buffalo Physco.

I like him. He gets the crowd going and when he is not there or the season he took a break then it has a massive effect on the crowd noise.

He has plenty of haters. Who are all just jealous because he gets some attention from the media. Not many guys would be willing to stand up and try and get fans going. If he gets some benefits then fine. he deserves it. Especially
with the team we have to endure season after season.

He actually left because he was getting death threats for him and his family. Season ticket holders were throwing food at him and many other harassing scumbag tactics back when he was standing behind his team during the sanchez / rex ryan meltdown of 11/12/13

he has talked about it a few times over the years.

Anyone who blames him for leaving is probably one of the scumbags doing it.

Being serious for a moment, I have two feelings about Fireman Ed:

    1. I think his ego got the best of him towards the end when he was being trotted out as the ultimate Jets fan and other BS. It rubbed a lot of people the wrong way, including me.

    2. OTOH, he is a dedicated fan and got the crowd organized and pumped. This was a good thing as far as I was concerned. As it is, people in NJ/NY don’t tend to be the most boisterous noise making fans IMHO and we need a little push. Personally, I think what he did is missed now, but as another posted mentioned, now that his ‘reputation’ as crowd leader is gone is will be tough to get back so his chants fail. It is sad because it is so much easier tearing things down than building them up again.

As I type this I realize that if I could go back I would be much more willing to tolerate his mild egotism and keep him pumping the crowd. Just my $.02.

EDIT: JDOT (above) reminded me why he stopped and I agree—Ed never deserved the treatment he was getting.

I've never had a problem with him.

I'd rather see more close up shots of the Flight Crew than him that's about my only complaint.

Thanks for that info. Didn't really follow what happened to him. Just the scuttlebut gathered from media coverage and here.

Of course the Flight Crew is nicer to look at than him, but he does a better job of cheerleading than they do.

I was never a fan of him, but I didn't hate him, and I'm sorry to hear that he was treated that way. I'm shocked that he got death threats. People are unbelievable.

I added a poll. I like what he brings to the table. I don’t care about him personally as I don’t know who the hell he is but as long as he makes Jets chant better than others I will like him.
