Do you agree with Richard Sherman that the Jets should sign Kaepernick? IMO, I disagree. Not that I think he's not better than what the Jets have currently, but he's not a FQB, or likely to be in his prime when the Jets finally get all the pieces in place. He's just god enough to allow them to win 6-8 games or maybe even get them into the playoffs with a "one and done" record, and the result will be mediocre to shitty draft position when the Jets need high draft picks more than anything else. As for his politics, I actually agree with his POV, but disagree with how he went about expressing it. You aren;t guaranteed free speech to bash your employer or make them look bad. That isn't an "NFL Thing", it's an employment thing. If you don't like your employer, quit, but don't complain if you bad mouth them and they fire you. But all that aside, he's a lightening rod, for better or worse, and will be a big distraction, and nobody needs that.
No. Kap is a better QB than anyone we have, but he isn't good enough to get us into the playoffs. He's a much better fit for a contender that loses their starting QB to injury.
Don't think he's a good locker room guy & he only makes us marginally better. If 1 of the current 3 went down...I'd consider a low risk 1 year deal.
In a league notorious for its lies and penchant for overlooking character in favor of talent, signing players with horrific instances of domestic violence and then in some cases backing said player(look at Josh Brown), this is a very very weak argument to use as a reason for Kap not being signed. Obviously, if he were a Cam Newton type player and decided to carry on with his protest, he'd long be signed, but too many in the media have tried to convince readers and fans that Kap's employment status is solely or mostly due to his abilities as a Quarterback. No fan is going to care whether Kap is on their roster or not in September or in October or in December. The distraction excuse doesn't hold up.
I agree that Kaep is being blackballed for something that in my opinion is pretty insignificant, but these are the times we live in and he made his own bed. I don't want him playing for the Jets because he's not good and I don't see him ever becoming a franchise QB.
Where is the No : Embrace the Tank and development option. I have no interest in going 6-10 at best with any short-term vet.
I'm not entirely sure I'd say protesting for human rights is insignificant but on the scale of wrongs committed by players in the NFL, much worse is done every year and we don't give those players crap. Jalin Marshall (allegedly) shoved a cop. MUCH worse than protesting for human rights but Jets fans aren't attacking him. Was going to point to Sheldon but most Jets fans are sick of him at this point. Players hit women, assault random bar patrons, drive drunk/high and we clearly are okay with that. But protest systematic injustice against black people in this country? He's clearly being blackballed. People just want dissenters to just shut up and keep quiet. They don't want change. Gotta keep the status quo. As for whether we should sign him, if we had a better team and just needed a QB, he'd be the best option right now. His accuracy is average. His TD:INT ratio is pretty good (16:4 with last year's shit tier 49ers team?). Good legs. With a decent team around him, he's shown he can take a team deep into the playoffs. We just don't have a decent team around a QB. We have a questionable #1 receiver, who knows who #2 and #3 will be at this point. TE situation is better than last year but still a question mark. RBs are okay. Just not the time to spend money on a QB. Dolphins are looking for a QB I hear...
I think it's clear he would be an upgrade right now, but not enough of an upgrade to be worth it. The team still wouldn't know if Petty or Hackenberg can play, still almost assuredly wouldn't make the playoffs, and still in my opinion wouldn't have their QB of the future, and those are things that matter - not winning 3 or 4 or 5 more games. I do also think that if it wasn't for the absurd overreaction to the kneeling he would have a job by now, even if he hadn't done some of the stupid PR moves afterwards (like wearing a Fidel Castro tee shirt, which is probably the biggest reason why the Dolphins won't sign him). Whether that constitutes blackballing or not is in part semantics, but there's no doubt that his resume is far better than that of many backups in the league.
I'm gonna keep this focused on the football side of it. Kaepernick would want to start here and we're a rebuilding team that needs to evaluate their young QBs. Period. Its like we're supposed to be some dumping ground for unemployed QBs. I hate Richard Sherman basically talking shit about our team and saying we should do something. Focus on your own damn Richard and let the Jets do what they think is right.
He's right our QBs suck. That doesn't mean we should sign a slightly less shittier QB though, what will that do for us? Nada.
I don't want to be like the Browns and go from 4-12 season to 4-12 season. If we have to tank let's go all the way and get this over once. Kaepernick would make us a couple of wins better when McCown shits the bed behind our porous line. There are plenty of decent NFL teams who need a backup and he honestly should be in the league. But he isn't the QB for a team that is doing everything it can to insure a top spot in next year's draft.
How was it implied if the no vote states theJets would be a better team, "worse draft picks"? For those saying Kap would make the team better, is this team any better than what SF had last year when Kap was 2-10 as a starter?
There is one thing obviously clear about what Mac has done this offseason: remove distractions. Kaepernick would be the greatest distraction of all.
