I have heard a lot of NFL analysts talk about how the Jets need a true #1 RB and a lot of mock drafts out there have the Jets taking a RB like Wells or Moreno in the 1st round of the 2009 NFL Draft. I propose a different solution: Before this happened + before the trade deadline I proposed that we trade for Larry Johnson because I thought he would make us a real contender in the AFC. Now it seems as if as soon as the offseason rolls around the Chiefs will look to move Johnson or just cut him. I think that we could get Johnson for a bargain price and I think he is still worth acquiring - he is a true in-between-the-tackles runner who brings the big play ability that Thomas Jones does not. Not that Jones is not doing well for the Jets, but just imagine what Johnson could do behind our revamped line. The Jets will have three 4th round picks for the 2009 draft (1 from the Kendall trade and likely one from the Robertson trade). The Jets can probably get Johnson for a 4th in 2009 and a conditional pick in 2010 that could go as high as a 3rd rounder (let's say if the Jets won the SB and Johnson started every game). The Chiefs are looking to get rid of him anyway, so getting two draft picks would be a great deal for them. I know that he has had his alleged off-the-field issues but he is not a bad guy and a change of scenery could be great for him and his career. I'm curious to know what you guys think about the idea of bringing in Larry Johnson?
There are very few running backs in this league I would less like to acquire than Larry Johnson. Honestly, I said this in the off-season and was laughed at, but I could see him as a Patriot next year.
I'd rather they find a back in the 2nd, 3rd or 4th round of the draft. Johnson is quickly heading toward that age when running backs decline rapidly. He has too much mileage on the tires.
LeSean. McCoy. Yes, I realize he's similar to Leon, but he's also bigger and two Leon's is probably better than one.
the Jets are getting a bucket of shit for Robertson, not a 4th. Also remember if we dont make the playoffs, we lose a 4th to the Packers... I have 2 words for you. Knowshon Moreno
I want a guy like Brandon Jacobs. A guy like that + Leon should = Win Is there anyone coming out like Jacobs?
You can find plenty of large bruisers out there, Jacobs is (in my totally biased opinion) special because he has 4.45 speed and the agility to actually make guys miss. I think you should just draft another back that is Leon-esque in that he can do it all and is a threat on every play. Then you'd have 2 backs with homerun capabilities.
Pass on LJ. Character issues, has miles on his legs and makes too much $$$. I'd rather see us grab some OL help in the draft. What we haven't obviously isn't working as well as it should. A good RB can be had in the latter rounds.
I just want the Giants to lock him up before the season is over. If he ends up somewhere else I will be beyond pissed off!
