This guys been gettin a bit of build up lately.

A decent amount of it has been against the second team offense, but its starting to seem like this could be the best draft pick we made this year value wise. And could finally be one of those late rounders that actually pans out .

Im gonna be as bold as to say I think Antonio Allen will be the best 7th round pick weve made so far this millennium.

(im also gonna throw in the obligatory training camp has just started, and its way too early to get excited about a 7th round draft pick who is likely 5th on the safety depth chart)

No surprise...the guy should have been a 3rd-4th round pick and I still have no idea how he was one of the final picks of the draft.

He may not have a ridiculous amount of upside but I truly think he's ready to step in and contribute and then some.

Just the thought of our safety corp actually being a strength for once is huge.

I mean whether it was Sherry back there, or the bumbling group from the last few years.

We actually have talent back there

Even our 5th safety on the depth chart is showing some legit upside

I think Allen and Bush will be great pieces moving forward and will be more than training camp fodder. Might be delegated to special teams initially but I really like both guys. Allen is more of a run stopping safety while Bush is that playmaker/ballhawk. Its a nice lil 1-2 combo.

I agree. For some reason, I'm not surprised either. Why he dropped to the 7th round is baffling. In a couple of years we could have the best Safety duo in the league with Allen and Bush.

It will help having Polamalu, Reed retired

With Griffin/Rolle/Wilson all past their prime lol

c'mon man thats a huge reach. its so highly unlikely. i think KC will have the best safety tandem in a couple of years with Eric Berry, and whatever jerk off safety they draft in the top 10 because they always suck.

I don't think Landry is going to stay after this season and I think very highly of our two rookie S's.

My friend actually played for South Carolina, with Antonio Allen. He was shocked that he fell to the 7th round he said one of the reasons were that Antonio Allen didn't get an agent and when he had a sit down with one the agent projected him to go between the 3rd-4th rounds. He also said he was one of the fastest kids on the team, always making big time plays in practice. Take it for what its worth, thought I'd share

Its possible, I mean safety is a cheaper position. So even if we gave Landry a monster contract youre only talking maybe 6million a year.

Bell is likely gone, Smith is gonna be cut and or possibly restructured (depending how much he would take)

I dont think Bush/Allen would be ready to be 1-2 starters so the team has to do something.

If Landry loves Rex (which id imagine he has to based on their styles) I wouldnt be shocked if we kept him.

I'd like to see him play a game before I start imagining the best safety tandem in the league in a few years ...

The most 2nd exciting player in the defensive backfield at SC, and the most competent and diverse defender. Whatever position he would play from one down to the next, he always managed to make a play and not get burned or miss a tackle. Of course, that diversity didn't help on draft day, which is a damned shame. For every other team, anyway.

I think Landry is getting too old. I agree that both Landry and Bell will probably be gone after this year and most definitely within 2 years.

Landry is 27, a few months older than Revis.

Look at the level Polamalu and Reed are playing at. One is 31 the other almost 34.

If his injuries are behind him, I could definitely see the best years of his career coming up.

I mean if he has a good/healthy year this year and sticks around, I see no reason he couldnt have the best 2-3 years of his career following that.

I mean he will be 28 in peak physical condition, and have a year acclimated to our defense.

Plus if we do end up keeping Landry, hes gonna get at least a 4 year contract. So its either hes gone after this year, or hes sticking around for a bit. No way he takes another short contract.

I've been in the camp that thinks Landry is unlikely to play 16 games this season. My bet was on about 8 games. Therefore, from everything I've heard and read, I was excited about the Allen pick.

Rex loves his DBs. Rex will find him a small role to start with and then start expanding it as time goes on. They found a role for James Ihedigbo who I think was slow as molassess. They even threw Joe McKnight in the secondary. They switched Lowery to safety with good effect. Drew Coleman had a bunch of strips in 2010. They had the number 1 pass defense with Lito Sheppard at CB in 2009. Even a midget like Leonhard was productive. If Allen has some physical talent, they will coach him up in short order.
