This is my first post here. Have been reading for quite awhile but just decided to sign up. Anyways... I am hoping that we pick DeVante Parker with the 6th pick. He is 6' 3" 210 with a ridiculous vertical and runs a sub 4.40. I live in Louisville and attend every game. I have believed since his freshman year he would be the best NFL guy on the roster over Pryor and Teddy Bridgewater. The day after the FSU-UL game several NFL scouts were quoted in the local paper saying he was a sure fire number # 1 wr in the league. One scout was quoted as saying he was by far the best prospect on the field. ( that would include Jamies) I really would love to pick him up. I've seen Parker in mocks as low as 20 and as high as 7. I mainly posted because I've seen many say they want Cooper but he will be gone by 6. I believe DeVante would be a tremendous consolation prize. My top favorites I would like to see us take would be: Cooper (Bama) Parker (UL) Shane Ray (Mizzou) or Cedric Ogbuehi (T A&M) . Who would you guys like to see us pick up at 6?
Wait for the combine. I think that's going to answer a lot of questions. I think he's a second round pick. I might be wrong on that. He's a very good receiver. If he runs a 4.4-ish 40 he might well go in the top 20. If he runs a 4.51, well that dropped Marqise Lee like a stone last year.
I've been saying this a lot lately. This kid is going to feast in the NFL. He might be a reach for us, but if Cooper is gone, we should take Parker. He will be gone by the time we pick in the 2nd round I feel. Cooper White and Parker are likely the consensus top picks at receiver this draft, along with Strong following closely behind
I would love to have Parker especially if he fell to the second round. He has a lot of qualities you look for in a receiver prospect. At this juncture, 6 overall for him is a reach even more so if Cooper is still on the board.
A top wr could certainly improve this team, but taking the 2nd best wr at the 6th overall doesn't really excite me when we can take the best prospect in any number of positions (or a top 2 Qb for that matter.) I don't know Parker so he may be the best WR on the board, but he should only be picked if he is the BPA.
He would be one of the players I would target if the Jets are able to trade down. I think 6 is a little too early to draft him.
I don't know much about Parker but I would love a big red zone type WR that can fight for the ball and win one one match-ups. Like what we had with Braylon. Can you tell me more about him? Is he a natural athlete that will go up for the ball? Does he position himself well when the ball is in the air boxing out defenders and fighting for the ball.? Can he win a one on one battle with a DB? While I love height weight speed numbers I get Stephen Hill flashbacks when I see numbers that are too good to be true. We have not had a reliable WR since Braylon left where our QB can take a chance and just throw the ball up and know at worst the WR will knock the ball down.
Parker is a very good WR who fights for position in the air very well and tends to come down with contested balls. He also makes excellent adjustments to under thrown balls and will catch the occasional prayer that is overthrown and out of bounds on a normal receiver. I don't think he's that fast though. He's fast for his size but not overall. I'm guessing 4.5ish is what he'll run at the combine. I watched a lot of him last year when I was trying to make heads or tails out of Teddy Bridgewater. I came away thinking that Parker was at least as good a receiver as Bridewater was a QB and that he was a major reason Bridgewater looked great at times.
Major reason Bridgewater was great in college was because he's a very accurate QB and made great decisions. Sure Parker played a role, but I don't see Parker being the key reason for Bridgewater's success. Bridgewater's rookie yr, he finished the season with the third highest completion percentage for a rookie in NFL history (.644). Teddy is going to be a good QB in this league. Sucks we could of had both Bridgewater (14 draft) AND Parker (15 draft).
If we strongly seek a WR entering the Draft - and presuming Cooper is gone - if the Jets think this kid can be a stud complement to Decker (and a go-to guy), then I don't see the benefit of taking the risk in trading down and hoping we still get him. I guess my issue is with "reaches." If the guy is going to be an impact player, then it's really not a reach. Had Odell Beckham Jr. been chosen in the top 6 overall last year, I'm sure people would've called it a reach. Based on his production this year and what he projects to be going forward, I think he would/should be valued as worth of a top 6 selection. I'm not saying we should "reach" for Parker. In fact, the comments Bradwaysux posted about his speed have me concerned. No matter who it is, if we're choosing a WR in the top 6 picks, he better have some threatening speed along with size.
I don't think the Jets will need to reach for a receiver. 4 good WR prospects in Cooper, Strong, Parker and Kevin White. I got Cooper and Strong as the best 2 receivers in this draft. I rank Strong higher than Parker because of Strong's ability to beat press coverage. Parker is 3rd though a close 3rd. To say Parker made Bridgewater is extremely funny to be honest.
I can assure you that he does not remind me of Hill at all. Parker's best attributes are his athleticism, ability to catch the ball in traffic, win almost every jump ball, and drops are very rare. He is the best redzone threat Louisville has ever had and I believe that is where he would excel at this level too... I also agree with br4dw4y5ux that while I loved Teddy, and he was a special qb, sometimes Parker made him look even better than he was.
According to the local paper he is the second fastest on the team behind their #1 cb and was clocked sub 4.40. We will see if that's accurate at the combine. The only time I can recall him getting chased down was against fsu and that was his first game back this year from a broken toe that made him miss some games.
I like Parker a lot too. If Cooper isnt available and someone is available to trade back I would love to trade back and ppick Parker later in the first. He wont be there in the 2nd round. Of course this is all speculation of his value and we will know more after his combine.
Parker ran a 4.45 at the Combine. That definitely puts him in the top 20 and he might crack the top 10. He's big and athletic with great hands and it is a beautiful thing to see him go up in the air against a CB. He always seems to have position on the catch point.
Parker is a very good prospect. This WR class is looking very strong! I think the secondary class is looking better as well with DGB/Dorsett. Cooper/White/Parker/Strong is a solid core.
