    Was released by the Bills.

I'm generally not a fan of random speculative threads, but we've had a number of people clamoring for Brandon Moore's release without any sense of who would replace him. What do we think it would take to bring Dockery here if Moore is released? He was getting $7 million per season.

Dockery's departure from the Bills means the OG market is a bit more crowded, finally. Moore can't expect to command quite the same numbers he otherwise would have. Either way, this might work out well for us. I don't know that he's much better than Brandon Moore, but I'm sure people on here will love him simply because he's not Brandon. So, how much more would you be willing to spend on him?

the interesting point you bring up is that Moore's market value won't be as strong.

that could work out well for the Jets.. or these teams do a guard swap.

Personally, I'd prefer the former rather than the latter. I think Dockery will still get a deal at or north of $5 million per year, and he wasn't exactly living up to his deal with the Bills.

Just wanted people to get a sense of who will be out there in FA at that position.

Shouldn't this be in the NFL forum?

No. I posted his release there, but this is for discussion of his prospects for us if we release Brandon Moore. It's as relevant as the Boldin threads or Bart Scott now that he's an FA.

me too... Moore returning with the same contract rather than going to another team with the same contract works better for everyone.

Dockery got a big contract and got lazy... Moore has gotten better every year he's played.

I think they'll get the same amount of cash since the cap went up.

Moore is losing some of the leverage he had with each day that passes. There are now 3 pretty good guards that are FA's, and the additional 4 mil in cap space means Moore might have to get more reasonable in discussing a new contract. Now, the Jets might make him play this contract out... something I am sure he does not want to do.

I have to admit, I don't know how good Dockery is, but he got a huge contract from the Bills two years ago if that is any indication.

Yep. He was being paid as a Top 5 guard, and he didn't play like one. They were right to release him. All I can hope is that he commands more than Moore based on reputation alone. Someone will remember his play with the Redskins and offer him a bundle.

you might have it a little backwards or maybe its me?

Moore would want to play out the contract because its the Jets that want him to take less, instead of Moore wanting a better contract... unless i'm missing something?

Some people have been saying on here that, if the Jets want to restructure, Moore wants to be paid $5 million per season rather than $3.5. I don't personally understand why the Jets don't pay him to get over the hump this year and into the very favorable remaining 3, but that's just me. I haven't actually heard official reports that he's demanding more money from the Jets. Either way, the Dockery news certainly has an effect on him.

As I understand it, Moore is due to hit the cap for 6 to 7 mil. That is what the Jets want to avoid. That is where Moore has his leverage. I think the Jets are willing to pay him, but they want to renegotiate to reduce the cap hit this year. Moore figures he could do better as a FA, and he thinks the Jets will balk at the big cap hit he will be under this contract. The dditional 4 mil league-wide on the cap may convince the Jets to just keep Moore, take the cap hit this year, and make him play out the next two years of his contract.

If Moore thinks the Jets might make him play out the contract, he would likely be more willing to renegotiate. thus, he has lost some leverage.

Exactly. The extra 4 million should go straight into retaining him. Saving 1 or 2 million off the cap this season isn't worth what it would mean for our future.
