He should be considered.... He's having an amazing season at the plate AND in the field. I remember alot of people, including myself, bashed him for his apparent lack of range and declining defensive ability but this season he has been outstanding defensively. Making great throw after great throw....

I don't think he wins it... If Mauer keeps it up he'll probably get it but Jeter deserves consideration.

Mauer is having one of the best offensive seasons that a catcher has ever had. Unless the bottom totally falls out on him (or the Twins absolutely plummet in the standings) he will win the MVP, and deservedly so.

Jeter is a strong second place though. In 20 years we're gonna look back at the Captain and realize how lucky we were to watch him play.

If anyone thinks anyone but Mauer should win the MVP, you can go eat a hot plate of fuck.

Props to Jeter though, he's having a good year and apparently worked hard to improve his defense, which shows.

He will get some votes. Not as many as Teixiera and certainly not as many as Mauer either. The very fact Jeter and Teixiera are on the same team hurts them both. Of course the fact that Mauer is on a team going nowhere may hurt him even more.

You are aware it almost never goes to someone on a team that doesn't make the playoffs, right? You aren't considered valuable if your team sucks. It happened to Magglio Ordonez in 2007.

they really need to define the MVP award. is it the best player in the league or the one that is most valuable to their team?

They have, it's the one that is most valuable to their team. Now, how that is interpreted.....

I think Mauer should win in easily.

I also think most baseball writers probably have difficulty tying their shoes and like to vote for Cy Young winners based on wins and MVP awards based on how well their team has done.

So I think Jeter has a shot at it, even though it'd be a disgrace if Mauer didn't win.

Then again, maybe that would (almost) make up for the disgrace that was the 2006 MVP voting, when that fuck Joe Cowley from Chicago put Jeter sixth in his rankings. All because Jeter slept impregnated his sister, wife, and mother just by looking at them.

I agree Mauer is hands down the MVP...

...I also think Jeter was robbed when they gave it to Morneau that year. That was a load of bullshit. Not taking anything away from Captain Canada as he had a fantastic year, but Jeters year was off the charts.

I agree, Mauer will win it unfortunately, even though I doubt the twins make the playoffs. Personally I would vote for Jeter. The only thing that people seem to forget about Mauer is that he missed a month of the season with injuries so that works in Jeters favor

Didn't a certain steroid using 3rd baseman win while playing for a last place team? While yes it usually goes to a guy but there have been alot of other guys who have won while not making the playoffs....

    Pujols last year
    Ryan Howard in 06
    Bonds in 04
    Bonds in 01
    Larry Walker in 1997
    Mourneu in 2006
Aroid in 03 (20 games under .500 and 25 games out)

Those are just recent examples... I'm sure if I really research it I can find more.

I'm not saying Jeter doesn't deserve consideration because he has had an amazing year but so has Tex. If I had a vote though it'd either go to Mauer or Texiera though. These idiots that vote (myself included) look at numbers and what would a team do without that. The Yankees are probably still a playoff team without Texiera but the Twins are nowhere without Mauer.

You don't gain an advantage based on someone else being injured. Furthermore, that player who was injured doesn't lose favor because he was hurt. If anything, it works in Mauer's favor that he was hurt as he put up these numbers playing one month less than his competition for the award.

It would be a nice make up for getting screwed in 2006 but I think unless Mauer slows down considerably this next month he's going to win it.
