Interesting. I still don't know if the Jets should go after him, but I prefer him over most of the other retreads being discussed.
This is what I was saying before about Carr. Never understood the trade talk, as Carr can do better for himself as a free agent financially plus the team he is coming to will have more assets to help him win than they would if there were a trade. Just a no brainer. He did use the Raiders to basically get a head start on free agency though by talking to Saints before official release, good for him. But he was never accepting any trade.
He visited with the Saints for two days, I don’t think this is any sort of indication that he will be any more available for us than he was a few days ago. I think he is sold on the Saints and he doesn’t want to do the Raiders any favors on the way out. and on the flipside I’m sure he wants to help his new team. The Saints probably want to structure any new contract with a way lower number this season and they can’t do that via trade.
Having an good idea of what the Saints would pay him, he can now negotiate with other teams and get the best deal. I guess the Saints were willing to do that on the chance that in the end Carr will come back to them. If it were the Jets we could all be certain that he was only using us for leverage, and never intending to sign with us.
I still don’t think Carr is our first priority nor do I believe he feels Jets are his number one destination. Long term contract away from the AFC makes sense.
Carr wants stability and the Jets are unstable. Plus they are almost guaranteed to be on Hard Knocks.
The Jets want Rodgers period. They are dead set on Rodgers and just like the WSS, its a all or nothing proposition for Woody. If they don't get Rodgers, they will not pursue Carr but instead, find a bridge QB and move heaven and earth trying to get Zach Wilson straightened out. Carr to the Jets most likely means Wilson walks the plank as I'm pretty sure Carr is looking at this next contract as his last before he retires. That's not some 2 year rental the Jets will probably float as they're married to Zwilson.
" instead, find a bridge QB and move heaven and earth trying to get Zach Wilson straightened out. Carr to the Jets most likely means Wilson walks the plank" Oh ..we are married to Wilson CMan?? Really? ..Can we divorce ? I am depressed already looking at this Crystal Jet Ball:/
There is zero doubt they are 100% committed to Zach for at least next season. But you know that. So they are looking at a short two year window or so for a savior and then go from there in the hope Zach gets NFL religion.
You need to ask the guy that drafted him that question. JD has always stated he wanted to "fix" Zwilson so yeah,. they're married until Zach's rookie deal is up.
To be perfectly honest I was excited about Wilson at first cause I TRUSTED JD..also NC Jets was high on Zach and respect his opinion The GM HAS to know more than all of us Fans put together right? That's why they hand JD millions And now..feh JD has his Ego on Line with Zach so yeah he's gotta fix the unfixable ?/ oh well
Carr has always been my "Option A" this offseason because I suspected this situation would play out. He's going to cost a decent amount of money (probably in the neighborhood of 35-40M per year) but he's better than any other option out there not named Rodgers or Jackson and won't cost us any picks to acquire now. Say what you will about Carr but he's absolutely a top 10-15 QB in the league and is only 31 years old. Imagine having even just top 15 QB play last year? We're absolutely in the playoffs and maybe even win a game or two. Sign Carr to a 3-4 year deal, keep your premium picks, and continue to build the team up around him so that if he does decline or there's another option down the road we'll, hopefully, have a solid team in place for Carr or whoever else ends up being the quarterback.
This is good news, we don’t want to trade assets away. Let the Raiders cut him and then sign him we will see if Woody has any respect in this league by how these veteran QBs react to his inquiries.
I doubt he can do better financially but we’ll see. He’s due $33 million, $41 million and $42 million the next three years. I do appreciate him giving the Raiders the finger though. They’ve really done everything poorly around him for nearly a decade.
such a great point there. It's incredible the dysfunction Carr dealt with with that organization. Other guys would get excuse after excuse when they flamed out of that but he survived. That tells you he is a good QB. Kinda like Stafford with the Lions
I don't think he's going to lose a lot of money. With how many teams still need a QB this offseason (Jets, Titans, Colts, Commanders, and the entire NFC South), I definitely expect his new deal to be 35M+ in AAV.
