Focused on 2nd half, bc that's when adjustments should be made

    Drive 1:

Jones runs for 1 yard loss
    Sanchez throws pick
Analysis: Can't fault Schotty here. 2nd half just started and Sanchez had only had 1 pick. After this, they should start running more.

    Drive 2:
    1st and 10: Leon for 5
    2nd and 5: Jones for 5
1st and 10: Sanchez to Braylon for 8
    2nd and 2: Jones for 3
    1st and 10: Sanchez picked
Analysis: OK, can begin to pick apart Schotty a bit here. Were having success running the ball this drive. Really need 2 first down passes?

    Drive 3:
    1st and 10: Jones for 7
    2nd and 3: Jones for 9
1st and 10: Greene for no gain.
    2nd and 10: Sanchez incomplete
3rd and 5: Sanchez to Jones for 10 yards.
    1st and 10: Jones for 8
2nd and 2: Jones for 1 yard loss
    3rd and 3: Sanchez incomplete
    4th and 3: Sanchez picked.
Analysis: Interesting. 5 runs, 4 throws. But the last 2 throws were on passing downs. I would argue they should've ran on one of them, probably the 3rd down, but 2 of the 5 runs on the drive were stuffed, so he could've been worried about that. 3 of the runs were very good, however.

    Drive 4:
    1st and 10: Richardson for 3
    2nd and 7: Jones for 2.
3rd and 5: Sanchez to Braylon for 10.
    1st and 10: Jones for 7
    2nd and 3: Jones for 9
    1st and 10: Leon for 2
2nd and 8: Sanchez sacked for 16 yard loss.
3rd and 24: Sanchez to Leon for 7
Analysis: I think Sanchez taking a sack is not talked about enough. Just as big of a play as any of his picks. The 3rd and 5 to Braylon was successful and a clear passing down. Would anyone have had him pass here? The 2nd and 8 maybe should have been a run, but, it's still a terrible play to take that sack.

I'm getting lazy now, but let's go into the OT possessions.
1st drive: 5 runs for 41 yds and 2 passes for 22 yards.
    2nd drive: 1 run for 2 yards, 2 passes for 6 yards
    3rd drive: 1 run for 5 yards, 2 passes, 2nd one intercepted.
OT analysis: 3rd drive is where Schotty may have f-ed up the most, after the lowery pick...1st possession was great, with Leon running all over them. 2nd possession was moot bc of a penalty. 3rd drive after the lowery pick, they def should've ran the ball more, esp on 2nd and 10 (they were again set back 5 yds due to a penalty.)

Overall, in the 2nd half they ran 21 times and passed 17 times....6 of the passes were in definite passing situations (3rd and 5 or more) and 2 others came on probable passing situations (3rd or 4th and 3 or more) So there were 9 pass plays called on not-so-obvious passing situations. In all, I still firmly believe Schotty is not fully to blame...although they certainly could have run more, Mark Sanchez played an atrocious game. Although this drive chart did make me realize Schotty def should've run more.

Nice job. I can't help but agree they should have just run it at the end of OT, or at least given Sanchez a few easy completions just to get relaxed. I like passing down the field, but not when your QB is that frazzled. Give him a screen or some other easy completions. He wasn't even reading the coverages, just throwing up prayers.

That sack was also huge, throw the ball away! If I recall, he was definitely out of the pocket on that play. The other problem was all the stupid penalties, particularly false starts and that holding on Hartsock, that just kept putting us into holes.

You can't run that screen left any more, because the opponents are now jumping it half the time and piledriving the WR or TB for a loss. Sooner or later it's a pick 6 waiting to happen.

The problem today was the Jets should have just taken the boring win, as others have said, and sat on the ball on the ground and punted if they needed to. Who the heck takes a rookie QB having a bad off day and makes it worse by having him pass in obvious passing situations, even when he's already been picked a few times? That just doesn't make sense.

It's not like the Jets needed points out of every drive and all the drives were priorities. They were playing the damn Bills, who specialize in giving away games at the end even if they have a small lead at that point, which is rare.

Somebody screwed up the strategy bigtime and the rookie got hung out to dry. Yes, he had a lousy game but where were the adults who were supposed to be managing the game so it didn't turn into this kind of mess?

I don't want to sit Sanchez but given the play calls I think it might be better for him to sit until Schotty has gotten fired.

you had a QB not used to that kind of wind and he looked lost in it. Edwards bailed him out on some high throws too. Keller and Sanchez seemed to be on very different pages. I think Sanchez went back to his USC days where he could throw a ball up and the superior athletes on his team would make a play.

Agree with all of that. The situational playcalling was absolutely pathetic, and I can't imagine that last season's idiotic playcalls were nearly as much the fault of Mangini as so many people were trying to make it out to be.

Let me pause right here... OF course I can fault Shotty here...

RUN THE BALL ALL DAY!!!!!!! You have a baby QB in bad conditions for the 1st time...

    You MUST handcuff the guy...

As arrogant as Rex was with the defense in Miami, They did the same thing with the offense this week - Who the hell did they think was playing QB.

    EXACTLY....

RUN THE BALL ALL DAY with the lead...

You have to make Buffalo earn it and in the end they either fail or give you the ball right back..

I think those early games where Sanchez looked poised and had good games kinda gave the CS some kind of false confidence in his abilities.. almost like they bought into the hype...

You read my mind....and the discrepancy between Sanchez in bad and good field conditions so far this year has been striking.

IMO, the Jets should NOT have tried any pass-play longer than 20 yards yesterday. I would have been doing screens, dumpoffs, and short passes to the RB's and TE all 2nd half.

    HELLO....

YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!!!!!!

Of course you keep a leash on a rookie QB and play it tight - Especially with a lead Vs a team that blows itself up every week..

    JESUS CHRIST HERE...

WORST COACHED GAME I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I totally agree with the comments here. You have the lead against the bills in bad passing conditions. Moreover Sanchez was throwing the ball poorly even when he got completions. At the same time you are running over the Bills D. You Run The Ball Right Down Their Throats. You are having success running, sure you might not always convert, but then you punt and let your defense win the game. Its really Fng Simple. Instead Schotty tries to get all tricky and starts calling pass plays in running situations when there is just no need to throw especially w/a qb who is a rookie playing in some tough weather and who is not throwing well. Terrible job by Schotty.

The other point that I don't think has been mentioned enough since the loss is that two of the Jets starting WRs - receivers that Sanchez had worked with all through TC - didn't play yesterday.

Instead, we get a starting lineup of Edwards - a guy that has been on the roster one week - Clowney, making his first pro start, and Wallace Wright, making his first pro start at WR, if I am not mistaken.

Our fourth WR? A guy off the PS who wasn't even a WR before last week.

In my mind, this is the biggest indictment of Schotty's decision to let MS fling it around the field. With that WR corps, is it really that surprising that Sanchez forced some balls into coverage?

you can knock schotty all you want and i think a lot of it is deserved but i think hed be a hell of a oc with a decent qb though. By decent I mean not a rookie, someone he can tailor his gameplan to.

The main problem is that we have 2 running plays and 2 passing plays... they all look the same!

I don't know if this is to blame on the OC or on the fact that Sanchez isn't progressing on his reads right... he always stares for 20 minutes at Edwards before noticing Washington was free.
