http://sports.espn.go.com/boston/nfl/news/story?id=5661743 This seems a much more likely scenario than V. Jackson going there. Branch would be cheap in terms of a draft pick and Brady loves him.
They are going to be stacked when they also get V. Jackson, I mean that is an automatic since they traded Moss. Branch is just icing on the cake.
Welker, Jackson, Tate, Branch and Edelman would be a pretty formidable receiver corps. I just can't see Jackson heading there, though. Moss trade or not. Don't know why, just a gut feeling.
I don't know, I think it is rather obvious the Pats traded Moss for only a 3rd so they could turn around and trade a 1st or a second for Vincent Jackson, and then back up the Brinks trunk to his front door.
I'm going on record saying that if the Patriots trade for - and SIGN - Vincent Jackson, I'll text dong shots to Jenn Sterger. Won't happen.
Any time you have the opportunity to acquire a 31 year old receiver who's never had a 1,000 yard receiving season in 9 years, you've got to do it. Randy who? -X-
Rumors are also out that the Patriots are in talks to trade Mankins for Jackson. I honestly don't see the Jackson deal happening (although who the fuck saw the Moss deal coming). I think a combination of things contributed to the Moss trade. First, the guy has struggled a lot in his last 12 games with no 100 yard games in that period, which means either he is rapidly loosing his skills or (more likely I think) they guy is getting all bored, depressed, receding into himself and was starting to turn into the general pain in the ass he always does at the end of his run with teams. The Pats realized that 1) their success this year relies on whether or not the defense develops as planned first and foremost, and 2) to a lesser degree, how much the tight ends can contribute and the running game. Over the last two games the Patriots have switched to a lot of 3 tight end sets. Randy saw the writing on the wall. There were incidents behind closed doors that none of us will ever hear about. You don't trade a guy who had 50 td's in 51 games because you want to dump salary and pick up a draft pick, but if he suddenly becomes a pain in the ass that you legitimately think will be detrimental to the development of the younger core of the team, you dump him. In a lot of ways then, I think getting Branch back is the next logical step after trading Moss. The guy cannot stay on the field in Seatle and will never be the athlete Moss is. However, in both '03 and '04 he was absolutely huge in the playoffs and in my opinion remains one of the more overlooked components of the back to back championship run they had. From everything that was said when Branch was traded, he was also a great teammate, was on the same page as Brady like almost no other receiever, etc. Look at what Richard Seymour said when the traded him "I don't think any of us envisioned something like this happening. It took the air out of me. It really did. When you look at Deion Branch, he embodies everything we want in a football player. Everything we talk about, the kind of guy we want on this football team, he did as good a job as anybody of embodying that." I don't think anyone would ever say that about Moss. Sure, I'm just being nostalgic as fuck. He's definitely lost a step, he can't stay on the field. But he's basically the anti-Randy Moss, a team guy who can be counted on most in the biggest moments ( Super Bowl 38, 39, 2004 AFCCG) rather than to catch 4 50 yard TD passes in week 6 against a mediocre secondary and then be invisible in the playoffs.
Branch sucks. He's been in the league 9 years and he's never had a single 1,000 yard season. He hasn't played a full season since 2005, his only full season. -X-
That's technically tru but in 2005 he did have 998 yards lol. At any rate I can't believe the 'Hawks gave up a first rounder for him
Okay, but. Super Bowl 38: 10 Catches, 143 Yards, 1 Touchdown. 2004 AFC Championship Game: 4 Catches, 116 Yards, 1 Touchdown. Caught a 60 yard touchdown pass in the first quarter to put them up 10-0 on the road; also rushed for 37 yards with a 23 yard reverse to put the game away in the 4th quarter. Super Bowl 39 MVP, tied a record with 11 receptions for 133 yards. Brady pretty much exclusively threw to him during the 4th quarter. So yeah, these were only three games but is it really a fluke that Randy Moss never came close to doing this in the playoffs but a guy who's 5-9 and never had more than 1000 regular season yards did? I'm sorry but I fucking love Deion Branch and would love to have him back. He will never give us the regular season highlight porn of Randy Moss, oh well. The more I think of it I'm gonna buy a Branch Pats jersey whether or not he ever comes back.
The Pats have so many draft picks they can trade for whoever thy want. However it's not in their style to trade for someone who wants a mega-contract like Jackson. Branch however can be an option for something like a 6th or a conditional pick... all I know is atm I'm happy Brady can only throw to a not 100% Welker, Tate & co.
I'm so confused. So Brady is calling Branch and saying hey come play with us while Branch is under contract with the Seahawks. Branch is quoted as saying I'd love to go back. Is this not the definition of tampering?? So perplexed.
The Jets should file charges. P.S. That means he also knew they were dumping Mandy Ross, and said nothing.....some teammate.
He was coming off a SB MVP game, and he also torched the Steelers in the playoffs. I agree with you that they overpayed in both money and draft pick, but they wern't the only team pining for the guy at that time. Many Patriots fans were outraged when they let him go.
