The New York Jets have named Dave DeGuglielmo as their offensive line coach. The announcement was made by head coach Rex Ryan. Looks like we are bring in more Dolphins' coach. Good move?
I'm not sure if it's a good move, but we are faced with a lot of uncertainty since the coaching staff is changing as we speak.
good hire Sparano was an OL coach and knows a good OL coach when he has one. Maybe the man on man power blocking scheme being planned replacing the complexities of the Callahan zone blocking will result in a system that the likes of Hunter and even Ducasse can improve in. Also Turner is back so hopefully things will be much improved in both the run and pass game. That and, of course, the most important element -- DeSchottenheimerization
So we hire the Dolphins HC, who is a O-line guru, and now hire the Ass. O-line coach. Wasn't their O-line garbage?
Anybody here think the switch to man blocking will lessen the effectiveness of Brick, Mangold or Moore? I like to think Brick and Mangold would get it done in any scheme, but I could see B Moore being more of a zone guy due to his build.
Moore played in a man scheme under Marrone and Wise while Brick/Mangold played in it under Wise as well. Only one of the 3 who concerns me there is Brick...who doesn't get much of a push via drive blocking in a man scheme. Then again he's on the team for one reason only:Elite pass protection. He didn't have a great year at that this season..but I wouldn't bet against him moving forward. The one guy who does concern me is Slauson. I think he has the skills to play in a man scheme..but the only scheme he knows since college is Callahan's ZBS. It will be interesting to see how he adjusts.
Correct... Our offensive line was fucking pathetic... One poster wanted Columbo? LOL he was a human turnstyle... Great hire! :rofl2: We are happy for this hire...We want you to conclude it by getting Columbo...Please!
Slauson is concerning...I've actually wondered if Slauson is partially responsible for the increase of sacks that Brick let up. Not that I'm excusing Brick's play completely, but we did see this play out before when Adrien Clarke played next to Brick. I do think Slauson is much better than Clarke overall.
How bad could they have been when Reggie Bush ran for 5 YPC? I don't know enough about either guy to really make a judgement one way or the other.
Oh Slauson is a much better player than Clarke. Slauson isn't elite but he is solid and perfect for Northeast style football.I just wonder how he adjusts to a scheme he likely hasn't played in since HS. Brick was rumored to be playing hurt. His upper body didn't seem right. He wasn't finishing blocks and his hand punches were completely ineffective. It also didn't help that teams were stacking the box and blitzing from the box as they had no respect for the big play. I expect Brick to bounce back strong.
Jesus, people will find ways to bitch about anything. Did you ever think the talent he had in Miami was pure dogshit? It's less about what he did for the guys themselves and more about what he did with them as a whole. New blocking schemes, styles, methods. I find it ESPECIALLY funny that the same morons who said Schotty was stuck with Sanchez and that's why he sucked are the ones saying oh the Dolphins o-line sucked, that means the coach sucks.
Googs Buy if you want to play with the nicknames, the proper pronunciation is: Dee Goo yee el mo Gli makes a "yee" sound /ItalianLesson
Touche, thanks. I forgot Callahan only got here in 08. I remember Wise and his OLs. It was a disaster in 2007.
