hypothetically speaking, say we trade Revis to TB for their 1st and 2nd. would anyone be opposed to drafting Milliner with the 9 or 13 overall pick? it's kinda hard to see him falling there but crazier things have happened. with all these FA corners, the Lions could sign one of them and use their pick elsewhere. Detroit is the only team I see before us that needs him.

he would fill the void that Revis left.

Milliner and Warmack/best pass rusher available in the first would make me more than happy.

If he's there at nine you take him, or if your really lucky trade down with a CB needy team.

Milliner is a top 5 player in this draft. I think if he's there on the 9 and he's on top of the Jets overall board it's hard not to take him at that point. Obviously if the Jets have traded Revis and/or Cromartie before that point the decision is easier.

I'd rather have a defensive backfield with LaRon Landry and Dee Milliner in it next year than one with Revis and Cro. One of those backfields is affordable and balanced in terms of value and the other is severe overkill.

TB wouldn't give their 1st rd pick for Revis.......probably a 2nd rd pick and a future conditional pick in 2014.

I'd agree with you except the Bucs did give up two #1's for Keyshawn and then gave him a huge contract. I think it's not out of the question that the Jets get the 13 and a conditional next year. In fact I think that is probably the deal.

Do you think the conditional will only go up to a 2nd rounder, though? Because unless it relies on Revis signing a long-term contract with TB, they won't give away 2 firsts.

13 years ago was a different NFL., you can't compare now and then.

Revis' value is based on March 12, 2013 and moving forward. His injury and his agent's reputation have a bearing on his value.

I don't think any deal has been made, so it's all speculation.

Then the Jets will be stuck with a one year player and a Round 3 comp pick in 2015.

Revis isn't going to resign with the Jets and will walk in 2014....thanks to Tanny's contract.

I still think we get at least a 1st for him.

Only if the new team gets a contract done, if not , no team is going to trade for Revis for 1 year and pay a 1st rd pick.

There's a lot to a Revis deal, it's more complicated than people realize.

Just cold hard facts, sorry to disappoint.

It's the same owners in Tampa as 13 years ago and they won a Super Bowl the third year after they made the trade. The Bucs have Drew Brees, Matt Ryan and Cam Newton in the same division. I think they might well trade for Revis and sign Dashon Goldson to try to deal with that reality.

They didn't win a Superbowl because of KJ.

I think if they sign Goldson, it may be difficult to put all that money in the secondary.

Revis, Goldson & Barron would be a solid group. I believe Tampa had the worst pass defense last season, it would be one of the best if it went down.

I know they didn't but owners tend to repeat things that have worked in the past. In 2000 the Bucs got Keyshawn because he was unhappy with his contract with the Jets and thought he deserved more. Parcells was unwilling to commit to a big contract and so Keyshawn got shipped out of town in a profitable trade.

A few years after that the Bucs won their only Super Bowl.

Now Revis is unhappy with his contract and he's on the market. The Bucs have a big need in the secondary and a prime guy is sitting there for them asking for a big contract with the Jets holding the keys. I think the owners have to be thinking this is a sign.

He wont be there at 9. I doubt he makes it past the Lions.

I still wouldnt pick him. Id rather sign a cheap vet and spend the pick on the offense or at OLB (where the resources for defense should really be put).

I agree about the lions selecting him. Makes a ton of sense for them

If he is there at 9 tho u take the bpa
Are we going to re up cro for massive money beyond 2014? Prob not and we need to think long term

I understand long term... But building your team through its secondary isnt the way a defense should be build. Linebackers are what control the game and if I go defense in round 1 it would be on a passrusher. Or I would use Milliner as leverage to trade down to a team looking to add a CB.

OLB is certainly a high priority, and i'd love to land Jordan, or Jones if he checks out.
But if Milliner is there, good chances those 2 aren't.

Since my last post, Cro restructured so i guess he isn't going anywhere.
Jets still need to make a decision on Wilson though.
If they don't draft a CB this year, they'll need to next year. so when a stud prospect like Milliner is staring at your selection, thinking long term means not passing that by as he'd be BPA at a position that is still a need.

When you play bump n run, and don't have the right personnel, teams will pick you apart. Or we'd have to switch to more zone looks which changes our defense quite a bit. A defense which has been working well.
Having good pass rush, but weak secondary, does not work. See the Giants of 2012. There's too many ways to attack a weak secondary, even if the pass rush is strong.
