Am I alone in thinking Igor Olshansky would be a nice pick to plug our DE hole? I've heard a lot of people say Canty, but I think Olshansky could be just as effective and a lot cheaper. I still remember this cat throwing a 43 on the Bench at the combine. He's built like a goddamn tank. 6'6'' 300+ and he's only 26, so his measurables are on par with Canty. If we moved into a 4-6, he could be pushed inside. Feedback please.
I'd love Olshansky, but it looks like the Broncos are after him. He'll probably want to stay in that division and show the Chargers that it was a mistake letting him go... If the Jets break the bank on a player it has to be a stud defensive end - the cornerback market isn't strong this season. Canty or Olshanksy. As the days pass, it looks like Bart Scott will remain a Raven.
Well then the Jets need to get active and try to outbid the Broncos. He could be a major upgrade to the Front 7.
Id like Olshanksy as well. I don't know what the qualifications are for DT to DE converts in the 3-4 but how about Tank Johnson.
Olshansky is a tremendous talent. He doesn't have gaudy stats, but he holds the line really well. I think he would be an easy upgrade over Coleman.
The only thing I like about Ols his age and potential. If we can get him to a contract cheaper than what Coleman has, then bring him in. Otherwise, keep Coleman. He's been more productive than Canty and Ols as a 3-4 DE.
i keep saying it why not go for albert haynesworth one big move in the offseason and the rest role guys him and jenkins and ellis would be amazing and our defense would be built like the patriots strong front 3 and some quality lbs would get the job done
because thats how cap hell starts. 100 million for a guy who was known for playing hard only for the big pay day?... i'll pass.
I wouldn't mind Olshansky. Imho Coleman is not that bad, his numbers aren't gaudy but he's a 3-4 end they arent supposed to be. He did a decent job stuffing the run this year.
Coleman isn't the problem - I think he's done a hell of a job against the run. Our problem is the lack of depth on the defensive line - we have no rotational players that are worthy of being on the field. The best thing this team can do is sign a solid 3-4 defensive end and draft another one.
I'd be quite happy with Igor coming here. I personally don't care if our big acquisition is at DE or ILB, provided we shore up the middle somehow. As far as Haynesworth going to the Redskins, that's great news for us if it happens. They look to be competitive for interior linemen, and limiting their available funds will have an effect on prices.
Jets fans are amazing. They want Ellis gone, but want this turd. Ellis had more sacks this year than Igor has in his career.
When are you guys going to get it? 3-4 defensive ends aren't supposed to rack up sacks - they are supposed to take up blockers so the linebackers can make plays. Look what Olshanksy and Castillo have done for Shawn Merriman and Shaun Phillips or what Haloti Ngata has done for Terrell Suggs.
I don't think the OP intended this thread to be about replacing Ellis. Cause if it was, then this thread wouldn't make any fucking sense whatsoever. Ellis has thrived in this 3-4 defense. Like Mr. Electric said, DE's aren't meant to rack up sacks, yet, he managed to pick up 8 sacks to go with his 60 tackles, (41 solo) in the 3-4. But even if it was to replace Coleman, you'd just be getting a YOUNGER player that's producing as much, if not a little less than what we have for more than what Coleman is making right now. I'd like for this FO to bring back Mosley who showed some good signs towards the end of the season and maybe DeVito for rotation. But we SHOULD also look at some DE's who'll fit the Ryan mold behind Canty and Ols in FA. If Ols isn't looking for much $, I'd show him some interest. However, I don't think that'll be the case.
I read a report that was dated from a few days ago saying that the redskins don't have the cap space to sign Haynesworth...I'm guessing a deal that huge would have to involve a lot of maneuvering
