He is halfway into his second season and I must say D'Brick has been impressive. He is protecting the QB and while he isn't great in the run game he has also had no help from Adrien Clarke. I think once he gets a big time guard next to him he could be a pro bowler year in and year out. Thoughts?
Yes, he was good yesterday. Clark on the other hand was worse than a steaming pile of dog shit. D linemen would at least try to avoid a pile of smelly crap on the ground, but they go right through Clark.
He has been impressive as a pass blocker this year. He has improved a lot. I now have faith we have a pro bowl caliber LT
Considering our need for a LT and the fact that he seems to be on the rise... I will cautiously say yes.
Out of the options behind Brick. It seems as though it was good move. None have really been all that impressive. Although a case could be made for Hawk, we had Vilma. 1 Houston Texans Mario Williams Defensive end North Carolina State [3] 2 New Orleans Saints Reggie Bush Running back Southern California 3 Tennessee Titans Vince Young Quarterback Texas [4] 4 New York Jets D'Brickashaw Ferguson Offensive tackle Virginia 5 Green Bay Packers A. J. Hawk Linebacker Ohio State 6 San Francisco 49ers Vernon Davis Tight end Maryland 7 Oakland Raiders Michael Huff Safety Texas 8 Buffalo Bills Donte Whitner Safety Ohio State 9 Detroit Lions Ernie Sims Linebacker Florida State 10 Arizona Cardinals Matt Leinart Quarterback Southern California 11 Denver Broncos (from St. Louis Rams) [5] Jay Cutler Quarterback Vanderbilt 12 Baltimore Ravens (from Cleveland Browns) [6] Haloti Ngata Defensive tackle Oregon
The Jets had no other real options on the 4 if they kept the pick. D'Brick was the guy to take and they did it.
we might be a completely different team right now had we drafted NGATA and found ourselves a left tackle in FA or later in the draft.
Ngata and Marcus McNeil would have been a great draft. But overall, Brick has been playing real well.
To start, we dont know if Ngota could handle the 3-4. He was considered strictly a 4-3 NT. Secondly, McNeil is not the elite pass rusher brick is, as evident by his play this year...thats not even including his back condition.
I'm pretty sure Ngata was considered to be the only true 3-4 NT in the 2006 draft. Am I wrong on that one? The guy is a 6'5" 350 pound load in the middle. I really wanted this guy on the Jets. Oh well. Brick has been good.
According to espn.com stats: year to date production Ngata: 24 tackles, 1 sack, 1 tackle for loss (through 7 games) D-Rob: 28 tackles, 1 sack, 1 tackle for loss (through 8 games) Considering the tackle in a 3-4 is supposed to fill up blocks more than get tackles (and we know D-Rob struggles to do this) versus the 4-3, I'm not sure Ngata's production merits the above comment. If Clemens comes on strong, then having Mangold, D-Brick and Clemens in the first two rounds of the 06 draft will look pretty damn good in my opinion...
He's been a pleasant surprise, to bad the oline has a whole has done very little so the casual observer may still believe it was a waste of a pick. It's still very early in his career so I can't be certain if he is quite worth it yet....as long as he continues to progress he will certainly live up to that pick.
The question at the time was Brick vs Cutler vs Leinart. A case could be made for Cutler, but most thought he'd be a reach, and he probably was. Leinart has done absolutely nothing to show he was worthy of a high pick, so Brick is looking like the right pick.
That load in the middle is currently playing end for the ravens. Would he have been nice? Sure. Would he start on our D line, hell yea. That said, the Jets FO saw our biggest need as O-line and took the highest rated O-lineman #4. Brick was supposed to have elite pass blocking skills and be average to above average at run blocking. I think he's comming out exactly as advertised before the draft. The way people are down on him you would think we drafted the second comming of Tony Mandritch, not our second best offensive lineman, in Brick.
Brick has been one of the highlites of this season for sure. As much as people do not want to hear this, he has been by far the best lineman on the Jets. His play has surpassed Mangold's. That is not a shot at Mangold by any stretch. The Bills actually stunted away from Brick yesterday. He locked down Schobel whenever they were 1 on 1. I was watching closely, the only pressure that came from the left was because of Clarke and that was when the D-line switched/stunted and got Schobel away from Brick. Anyway this is going on 7 games now where Brick is improving almost every game. This was a great pick. Maybe people were expecting more from a #4 pick (Munoz comes to mind) but Brick is quietly anchoring the QB's blind side. I know one thing you never ever hear his name during the games. For an LT that is gold. Now if the FO can continue drafting well and get a LG and RT in here this offense will be golden. EDIt: The answer is a resounding yes and it isn't even close.
IMO- A #4 Pick is a lock down LT not a 'Needs Work' One. I said it the day of the draft and I still say it. If you pick an OL @ #4 he is of the Roaf, Pace, Munoz caliber. D-Brick is not there and IMO will never get there to Justify that Pick. Servicable and a 1st round caliber? Yes Top 5 pick LT? Nope. Wanna see who fits this mold? SEE: Long from Michigan. That my boyz is a LT for Life. If we fall there I still take him and I move D'Brick to the right side. Then we have a Friggin Line of Epic Nature!
Couldn't have said it better myself, in regards to this "He is halfway into his second season and I must say D'Brick has been impressive. He is protecting the QB and while he isn't great in the run game he has also had no help from Adrien Clarke. I think once he gets a big time guard next to him he could be a pro bowler year in and year out. Thoughts?"
Is that some kind of Joke? Long from all accounts is being projected as a better NFL RT than an LT. I love how you pick the 3 best LT's of modern time and say that is what Brick should be at #4. You just have to love realistic fans, with realistic goals. The fact he is already the best lineman means nothing.
