    4.68 40, with a low of 4.57 and a high of 4.7

Projected to be only successful in a Cover 2 scheme "teams that require great speed at cornerback aren't going to take him. He will almost surely be drafted by a team that operates in a Tampa Bay Two or similar allignment which will protect Hughes with safety play over the top." http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/profile.php?pyid=15178
we do not have Herm Edwards and the cover 2 anymore, Mangini places the CBs on an island, and likes to rush Rhodes

    Derek Strait Clone

His stats are inflated because of the heavy pass attack of the pac 10

Someone give me some reasons why we would want to take him, because all the talk is getting to me, and not in a positive way

because overall he has good coverage skills. we dont need blinding speed with our #2 CB because we were constantly getting killed with the short routes. That is why we need a physical guy like hughes. When the jets blitz their safeties or play up, the QB doesn't have time to unload one deep and is forced short. Which is where hughes can help. His lack of speed is not a huge issue because a) it is not necessarily his football speed b) he is more of the physical type who defends well against the short passes and c) when he is forced deep the KRod and Coleman are going to help with that. He wotn be in many situations where he has to defend a burner deep all by himself because when the safeties are not there, the QB wont have time to unload a deep one. And, considering that the jets can get him so late, he can be good value.

    Hobbes,
I'm with you man. Courtney Brown, that's a name I'd love to hear before Hughes. As many have compared Hughes to Strait, I think they have a legit argument. Cornerbacks like Hughes in college just don't seem to translate well into the NFL. Brown has a chance to be special, he brings a dimension of athleticism that our cornerbacks, outside of Miller, are lacking. I just really hope that we don't draft with the mindsight of being safe. Sometimes you need to take shots at guys who are "hit or miss." More so in the later rounds than in the first round or even second round.

Hughes will make a solid cover two #2 corner. The guy has great ball skills as long as he has a safety over the top.

The ideal CB for us is Darrelle Revis, but we'd need to move up way too much.

I'm not a big fan of Chris Houston or Aaron Ross either.

I also doubt that Josh Wilson makes it to our #59. So, CBs we should look for IMO are Tanard Jackson and Jonathan Wade. I could name a bunch more, but I'll hold off.

As for Hughes, I'm not down on him like a few of you are, but I'd be OK with taking him at #63... Just OK. It becomes a good pick if we snag him at #89.

Courtney Brown is a solid sleeper, but I have a feeling some team will take a chance on him in the mid/late 3rd.. I wouldn't complain if we got him at #89.

I'm with you Wolfe. The guy will do well in a system, just not ours.

I really hope that Eric Wright drops to one of our 2nd rd picks. I heard an interesting quote from him at the combine which basically went (paraphrase) "I chose to transfer to UNLV because it is a city that it is very easy to get into trouble. I wanted to prove to people I could keep my nose clean in a place that is full of temptation". If he can stay on the straight and narrow in the city of sin NY should not be a problem.

The reason I made this thread is because I am confused why so many posters want him for the Jets, the reasons are stated above why not, I was hoping for more ammo against my opinion for discussion purposes

I don't think anyone is, we all think he'll be gone by our picks.
