Am I the only one that HATES when we switch the clocks and its PITCH BLACK by 6:30?!.... and prob and hour earlier for you guys. Will be 5:30 soon I hate it.
oof... yeah that sucks. not really enough time to do anything outside BEFORE work, and you're hosed afterwards...... beers get opened earlier by default
Hate this as well. In Madison NJ, it is dark by 4:45 nowadays. Give me summer time where sun is up until at least 5:30 or so.
Unfortunately there seem to be a handful of reason as to why it was used, energy, using up more of the early part of the day to get work done...etc Honestly I get most of my work done by 1 or 2pm whether it’s daylight savings time or not, I’m up at the crack of dawn, love being outside early, fresh air, nice cup of coffee and some gang green forum.
I , for one, welcome the darkness in the mornings on my way to work. When it’s sun shine and nice i start thinking of reason not to go. Then I can go through the day with something to look forward to after work. Now it’s dark when I’m off and really not much can get done.
Yes, it was. I believe WW1 era.... to reduce the amount of lighting / electricity needed in morning work hours.
THIS. These days it's not as much of an issue for me as my commute is 50'..... but when I used to commute 40+mi to JAX, to come home when it was dark just felt like a non-stop work cycle
It’s clearly not needed anymore and I feel like there’s been enough of a cry to get rid of it. I wonder why we haven’t stopped yet. I assume it has something to do with someone with enough influence making money off of it but who? Besides bars getting that extra hour to serve.
FYI. Europen Union will abandon daylight savings bullshit in a few years. Each country will pick a time zone and stick to it for whole year. Hope US can follow suit.
I'd loved to see it. Go forward one hour in March and then leave it there. Dark afternoons are miserable.
Daylight saving time by country as of March 2020 Blue and Orange are the countries that still do Time Change. Dark Grey - Never did Daylight Saving Light Grey - Formerly used daylight saving https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daylight_saving_time_by_country#/media/File:DST_Countries_Map.png
The UK adopted it during WW1. It wasn't anything to do with energy saving but more an attempt to align those who worked a rural, daylight based schedule with those who worked an urban, clock based one. The pre-DST standard was the winter GMT one here, I assume similar in the US - but you have so many time zones anyway that it is probably tougher to tell what is naturally mid-day in any given place and set a standard. Many people over here want to do away with the clock switch too and keep summer timings. Energy conservation and road safety being the primary given reasons, but the general consensus is that extended usable time in the evening fits more naturally with modern work schedules and lifestyles.
