Darrelle Revis: 'I want to be a Jet forever' »

    By Manish Mehta

    Updated: 2:40 pm.

A day after Darrelle Revis staged a mini-protest over his contract dispute at Jets minicamp, the All-Pro cornerback maintained that he pulled himself out of team drills during the first practice yesterday because he did, in fact, feel “lightheaded.”

“I did feel a little lightheaded,” Revis admitted today. “I didn’t have a hamstring (injury)…. The hamstring, I kind of exaggerated that.”

Revis also said he didn’t regret his approach yesterday.

“I spoke from the heart,” Revis said. “Some people might not like it. Some people might not care. Some people might not know who Darrelle Revis is. .. But it doesn’t matter. I spoke from the heart… That’s what I said and that’s what I meant.”

“When you get to a frustrating point, other things start happening,” Revis added. "I want to be a Jet forever. I don’t want to get cut, get released or get traded."

Revis said that he will speak to Rex Ryan later today.

“We’re going to try to see eye to eye and make sure this thing doesn’t get out of hand,” Revis said. “I don’t want this to go negative. But negotiations do get crazy sometimes. We’re trying to stop it before it gets to that point.”

Said Ryan: "It's so not him. It's uncharacteristic of him to get out of anything. I got to hear it from the horse's mouth. I know what he told (the media).... It might just be that this is a thing that he wanted to do. And that's fine. But he knows that that's not right.... My door's always open. He knows that. He'll probably just get me for a couple minutes."

Neither Revis nor Nick Mangold, who also wants a new deal, said they have even thought about asking to be traded. Mangold said that that was "most likely out of the equation."

Mangold, who said last week that it was "50-50" that he'd show up for minicamp, has been a full participant for the first two days.

"In the end, I've always done the right thing," Mangold said. "There's no reason not to continue that. Being a professional. (It's) part of my job. I decided it would be in the best interest for myself to be here."

Mangold, who is entering the final year of his rookie contract, characterized the negotiations as "still zero."

"It's deeply disappointing that we are where we are," Mangold said. "I've tried to do all the right things on and off the field. I feel it's the Jets' turn. Not having that security of an extension is bothersome."

"I'm always optimistic," he added. "But still deeply disappointed where we are. ... I expect something to get done. That's the mode that I'm in."

More Mangold: “I’ll definitely be playing out my contract. That’s a given. I don’t see any reason not to. It’ll be very disappointing to have to do that. And it’ll affect our longterm relationship. … If it gets to that point."

"If they’re going to let me go through the season without the security of a long-term deal, at some point, I’m going to have to decide my want and desires to be on the team. .. I don’t really want to uproot. I think that (asking to be traded right now) is most likely out of the equation."

Braylon Edwards: 2 receptions, 3 targets
Santonio Holmes: 2 receptions, 5 targets, 1 TD (35 yds)

Rookie CB Kyle Wilson was drilled in the helmet by a Kellen Clemens' pass during 11-on-11 team drills in the afternoon. Wilson slipped and was on his back when he got nailed. Ouch.

Anyone interested in attending Wednesday's minicamp practice at the New Meadowlands Stadium needs to print out a free ticket for entrance. The team's official website has instructions.

If you want to be a "Jet Forever" accept a reasonable contract that will be acceptable not only for ones self but for the franchise as a whole.

14 per with incentives that could allow him to be the 'highest paid' CB in the NFL is the best compromise I can think of for both sides.

He's speaking in third person now? I knew Ty Law was a bad influence on him.

i've re-iterated this in the other 60 Revis threads......

Tanny and Revis will come to terms...it's just not gonna happen in the next 48 hours.....it's fucking June. With the new CBA not being drawn up yet...Tanny can't just jump into the fire throwing guaranteed money all over the place.

Sanchez was 7 for 17? ouch. I would be worried but that's what happens when you're trying to pass against the league's best secondary.
