Anyone hear anything on how McClover is doing? I honestly don't think I have read his name even once. It seems like all the other backup LBs are getting some pub but not him. I know he is a good ST player and I would think he could be a decent OLB in the 3-4 but I think they are playing him inside which probably limits his speed and highlights his lack of size. If we don't start hearing his name I'm thinking he may be gone to allow the Mangini and Tannenbaum selected playhers to get a shot. I am pulling for him to make the team though.
And while were at it lets get a report on Alonzo Jackson who is a great prospect at the 34 OLB spot. I'd like to know how him and McClover are doing.
Haven't heard a thing- other than one picture where the guy looked absolutely jacked up you wouldn't even have known that he was invited back to camp. He was a true asset on ST- so if nothing else we'll have him there. His lack of size, coupled with lack of experience, might really hurt his chances on the field.
I like McC a lot, too. He's been getting a lot of reps on the KOR team, but not much as a LB. He looks to be in good shape, but hasnt really been put in a position to really make plays so far. I hope he survives the Camp Mangini cuts.
I would be surprised if he didnt make the team. I thought he was a versatile guy, werent there talks about him possibly moving to Safety at one point as well. He is a very good special teamer, and provides depth.
I don't know he was versatile for the old regime. Herm thought he could play safety, that doesn't mean Mangini does. For all we know, Mangini might not think he can even pay LB. It is so hard to get a read on this new CS but all I know is there isn't going to be any loyalty to the players Herm liked so fan favorites such as McClover could be getting cut in favor of someone Mangini likes like Schlegel, Kassell, Chatham. Actually come to think of it, if those 3 make the team, plus Thomas, Vilma, Barton and Hobson, that only leaves one spot for Jackson, McClover, Myers, etc. to fight for.
Is it easy to move to safety? I mean I have never played in the NFL so I personally wouldn't know if I could just up and change positions like that.
Its not an easy move to Safety, doesnt mean he couldnt do it. i dont think an every down safety, but for certain packages its possible. Goal Line, the 2-5, that NE ran against Peyton, which i think we will see from time to time, and I thought there were rumors of moving Rhodes to CB in certain situations, then McClover could fill in back there possibly. All huge speculations of course, but hey, thats part of the fun. Not sure why I like him, but I hope he makes the team.
I forgot about McClover, he was a key loss last year even though no one realized it. He was great on STs on '04(out=r best cover guy) and loses him was important. I have eben away and I am still away so I am not getting as much info as usual but I hope he's fully recovered and can be a ST's demon once again.
He's too valuable as a special teams guy to get cut....he also has some upside as a 3rd down blitz specialist in certain situations....if you guys remember, herm finally gave him a few chances late in the 04 season as a lb for 3rd downs for a couple of games and he looked pretty good
That's what people fail to realize. He is too valuable on special teams? What, during his rookie year 2 years ago? Mangini wasn't his coach then, he, like every other player is establishing their value all over again since they have a brand new coach and a brand new philosophy.
P.S. did he get any run in the game last night, I was preoccupied and couldn't watch or keep track online or anything.
