http://www.newyorkjets.com/team/player/1330-darnell-bing I never realized we signed this guy in back in January. I remember him being a very solid player on that USC d. Does anyone know the extent of his injury his rookie season and is he anyone to get excited about. BTW even though Elam did overrun alot of plays this year, I think Mangini could mold him into a pretty solid safety and he can definitely light people up when he gets a hat on them.
If he makes the team it will probably be as a STer. He's been with 2 crappy teams in 2 years and both cut him.
I think he did alright with the raiders in the preseason before the injury but they had him playing OLB not S I dont know what the 49ers had him playing as I wouldnt mind him as a backup
I thought i read on here he is the definition of a tweener... to small to play lb too big to play safety.. I agree with abyz IF he makes the team he will prob be a special teamer
This kid was a stud at USC and was at one time considered a first round pick. I'm a big fan of this kid and think he can pan out if he's healthy.
Darnell Bing has to break through a lot of barriers, just like that CB named Woolfork. Whether they have what it takes to do the awfully hard work required of them remains to be seen. It would be great to see one of these guys who've played well before break out against the odds, though.
I wasn't aware that we picked him up either. He was one of the top prospects in the nation coming out of high school and played very well at USC, although he never did live up to his insane potential. He went to Long Beach Poly high school in California which is notorious for putting out D-1 football prospects every year. USC's revival during the Pete Carroll era owes a lot to LB Poly for helping to supply the talent that USC is now known for. Darnell's senior class in high school is one of the mosted talented group of athletes ever. Unfortunetley none of them have really lived up to the hype that preceded them. Normally I would be jocking a former USC player like crazy but Darnell left some what of a bad taste in my mouth. He was the one that was called for the 15 yard facemask penalty against Texas in the National Championship game which then led to the game winning touchdown by Vince Young. That being said Bing was still one hell of a player in college. I still don't quite understand the move to OLB when he was with the Raiders. He is defineley big for a saftey but he wasn't any worse in coverage than guys like Roy Williams, etc. Then again it was the Raiders.....looking for logic behind any move they make is pretty much worthless.
maybe that's why the faiders and the 9'rs were crappy teams. they cut their best players. he'd be a nice safety to have when we play jacobs and the gianst in the upcoming sb. he's one safety jacob's won't run over.
Exactly. He had a lot of potential that just hasn't been realized. If he happens to do that with us, we'll look genius. If he doesn't no big deal. We're not relying on him.
I don't know where he'll fit, but I think we picked him up on recommendation of Rob Ryan, he was signed right around the time we 'weren't in talks' with Ryan to replace Sutton. I'm not going to write the guy off, but he is a longshot.
I think he could be a nice addition. I don't know much about Elam from college, mostly because he sexually assaulted some girl at Notre Dame before I became aware of his presence. I do know that he looks to be more of a two-down safety, or at least that's the only capacity they use him in. I think Bing is athletic enough and I wouldn't be surprised if he shows up in training camp and surprises some people. I also wouldn't be surprised if he's a first-cut. You never know with guys like this. -X-
Seriously Bing, we are saved. in Madden he was a 75 safety that if you moved him to Lb was a beast. He had like 91 tackle Sarcasm
