This dude was drilling everything in sight a year or two ago... According to Adam Schefter, we are one of the teams interested along with the Seahawks, Packers, Browns and Bucs. Dude has to be an upgrade from Folk no? Carpenters FG % 81.9 Folks FG % 77.9 Sign this beast!!!
The same Cundiff that bricked that kick in the 2012 AFC Championship game that would have sent the Ravens to the Super Bowl?? Yeaaaa I'm good on that.
The same Cundiff that has been on just about every NFL team in the past decade, what's that say about him
I read on NFL.com that the reason they let him go was his price tag... He was owed 2.65 million in 2013 while the rookie kicker they just drafted will cost them about the same amount over the course of the next four seasons.
Folk has been pretty good for us. That said, I always get a lump in my stomach when I see him line up for a kick from inside the 35.
Folk has yet to cost us a game in his 3 years here. He has had some bad misses but we prevailed in the end. Carpenter singlehandedly lost the Phins a game against the Jets last season. Say what you want about Folk but he has come up clutch and he has not cost us a game.
When it comes to kickers there are about 10 real good ones. Jets typically have one of them. Then you just ride the wave of them being good till they miss a big kick and/or start to struggle. Folk has never really missed an important kick for the Jets & has made quite a few big ones. I'm fine w/ pushing him via competition. But I keep riding the Folk wave until he screws up
He has missed game winning kicks but as I said, we won anyway. Folk has been reliable, you dont want to look back at the end of the season and "if only the kicker made that kick we would have had another win". Folk hasnt cost so Ill ride him out until he does. He has been clutch to, games in which the Jets HAD TO win like in Indy or the 9//11 game he made. If he misses those he wouldnt be here right now.
Folk is fine. He's not the best in the league, but he's come through enough when the Jets really needed him. It's OK to push him in training camp but he should get the roster spot unless he's totally blown away by the competition (as long as his salary is reasonable).
Fuck Cuntiff, and Carpenter, We dont need to try to make a marginal improvement, Thats why Wheatherford, and Woodhead are no longer jets,
I don't like Folk at all. He's had only two seasons making over 80% of his kicks, and that was at Dallas. He hasn't lost any games for us that I can remember, but you really can't rely on him like many other teams do on their kickers. We should of taken a Kicker last year in the draft. Greg Zuerlein for the Rams, Blair Walsh for the Vikings, Justin Tucker for the Ravens. All really good kickers last year. The fact that we cut two 6th rounders last year makes me upset on its own, passing on guys like that make me more upset. Can't do anything now though, and nobody really knew that those Kickers would do what they did.
Carpenter won us a game last year without playing for us Maybe he could do it again while playing for us
Kickers are just not worth the attention. You find one that can hit a certain percentage and keep him unless you can find some dude that kicks a hole through the back of the stadium. Folk isn't elite. Neither is Carpenter. But Folk is here and Carpenter is hoping some team gives him a chance. Give it a rest. Carpenter is no better than Folk, and could be worse.
I used to get on Folk regarding kickoffs. Between moving the kickoff up 5 yds, and what i think has been some improvement in leg strength, he's been getting better with touchbacks. in Detroit he was booming to back of endzone or out. Granted it was a dome, but still encouraging. My take, i like my Kickers to be money inside 40, have decent % 40-45 yd range, and force a lot of touchbacks on the kickoff. this is something i like with Goskowski in NE. Long range boots are just a bonus, and not as important as reliability to me. All that said, Carpenter is a step up from Cundiff in terms of competition. But i expect he'll sign somewhere with a better chance of making team, or holding out till injury.
It's funny the perception around Nick Folk with regards to how nervous I (we) get when he comes on for a kick. But whoever already said it is exactly right, he's actually been pretty damn clutch for us. Between him and Jay Feely a few years ago, we've had a pretty decent run of castaway kickers for a little bit now.
