Today alone, the Yankees, Angels, Rangers, and Red Sox have all won the bidding for Matsuzaka. It'll be funny when the official winner is announced and it's someone like the Royals.
Don't worry Steinbrenner will put in a $200 million bid at the last second so the Yankees can have the first $400 million roster.
That's the craziest part, these bids just give you the right to negotiate. It has nothing to do with the contract you would have to pay on top of it. Nuts...
Does anyone know exactly when the winner will be announced? From what I've heard if the team and Boras/Matsuzaka can't reach an agreement he goes back to Japan for another year and will return next year as a FA. The team with the winning bid does have a lot of leverage here in negotiations. I could be wrong on this though.
That's how I understand it as well. Not to mention that they don't get their money back if they can't come to an agreement. Mind boggling...
Insert sarcasm where? I guess they figured it worked out so well for their neighbors to the south so why not follow suit. I was pulling for 31 teams and I guess I'll b happy if this is true.
It was a joke, Sox fans always whine about payroll yet they spend more than anyone besides the yanks and had a $44 mil difference against SL in their fluke title year of '04 .
If the team can't come to an agreement with Matsuzaka, they get the posting fee back. That's definite.
But if they do come to an agreement, that money just goes to the Japanese team and has nothing to do with the contract, right?
