I know there have been recent reports about us "not being interested" but this has to be our best option. He is leaps and bounds a better option that Bradfrod, Fitz, Gina, etc.... or any other FA option. I wouldn'y pay anything more than a third rounder for him? What would you guys give up? inb4 i wouldnt take him for free!!1
Not a chance in hell I would trade for the guy. Not even a 7th. The fact that he's on the hook for at least $10 mil in 2016 is enough to make me so no, but tack on the fact he's not at all good and it's clear we should stay away. Just because someone is better than a crop of shitty QBs doesn't mean you should want them.
Given his contract the Bears may have to cough up a draft pick to be rid of him. I would pay Cutler if the Bears would throw in a second or third round pick.
He gets cut, I have no problem signing him. He's an improvement for sure. His cap hit is monstrous. He isn't worth giving up picks for IMO.
GTFO with this Cutler stuff. Please. Considering his contract, attitude, and inability to develop into anything beyond a mercurial gunslinger, I'd be really and truly disheartened - literally more than I've ever been in my lifetime as a Jets fan - if this was the move. And I'm a glass half full, optimistic fan.
I am skeptical about the OP, but on your point all analysis of the situation suggests he is much more likely to be traded than cut. Chicago actually has an incentive to buy down his contract more than to simply cut him the way it is structured. Given the right terms I have long been an advocate of getting Cutler. He gets far too much in the way of unthinking criticism here and elsewhere.
Cutler seems like the kind of guy content with collecting his pay check and whatever happens, happens. I'll pass.
That;s the point, it has to be negotiated. We can say something about this more than that, though. Back January I read an analysis that suggested in effect that the cap hit from a cut is so huge, that paying his K down any fraction of the cap hit is in the interest of the Bears in order to move him, if that is what they want. Remember that a large amount is guaranteed, so that is really a sunk cost as far as Chicago is concerned. Take even a large fraction of that guaranteed money, pay it in advance as part of an overall trade deal, and Chicago comes out ahead financially. I remain skeptical, though, because then who will play Qb for them?
