that’s just absurd, he played what 3 games? Small sample size, and you are comparing him to Tom Brady White struggled against Buffalo and threw too many INTs late in the game. He did better than the other Jets QB though who put up a whopping 5 net yards in an entire game against Buffalo too maybe that defense is just good — He doesn’t have to be better than Brady anyway - he just has to be better than Joe Flacco. (Flacco 0-5 as Jets QB)
How would you suppose I reply to a post that just compared Brady and White? Compare him to Montana? And the fact he has only played in 4 games since being drafted in 2018 is very much part of my point. If he had all this upside, such a high ceiling, etc., you would think someone would have noticed and he would have played in a regular season game before he was 26 years old. And I guess 3rd quarter is late in the game now because that is when he threw 3 of his 4 INTs. He also threw 2 against NE and 2 against Cinci, he didn't throw any against Indy because he only threw 11 passes.
That doesn't mean anything. He's a backup QB and backup QBs don't get to play unless they get an opportunity. What you described is a good thing for White's spot on this roster. He's had time to learn the NFL game, unlike the starting QB Wilson, and he's not too old and washed up, unlike the other backup Joe Flacco
All that time yet still threw INTs at twice the average rate of all QBs Edit: My numbers were off, it was over 2.5 times the average rate of all QBs
I didn't even watch because the starters weren't playing. But in general, if the 4th stringer has any promise, the guy who should be cut/traded is Flacco.
Streveler just shows how desperate certain Jets fans are for anything. Put him in against a starting NFL defense and let him play for a few weeks. Come on now.
I don't think we should cut a good player so MW or Srteveler should be on this team. Better to cut both put them on the PS and elevate MW from the PS on week 1 to serve as a back-up. we are going to have to cut too many good players who could contribute.Keeping MW or Steveler is not worth a spot.
Then by all means, put Streveler in against a starting NFL defense with his starting offense and see what happens. We already know what MW and SloJoe can do against teams not named the Bengals. Those two years up in Canada appear to have benefited this kid. Much more settled in taking snaps and executing.
I like what Streveler brings to the offense, however, I'm not sure his style translates as a successful NFL starter. In the NFL you have to be able to operate from the pocket. All the greats, with very few exceptions, have been able to do that. Flacco and White both operate that way, although not as successfully as we would like so far this season. Streveler's first move, if not handing off, is to move out of the pocket. That works in the CFL with a wider field but probably won't here. Nevertheless, a team can always use a QB like him to inject some pizzazz into a stalled offense as a backup. I might add that so far, ZW doesn't seem very comfortable working from the pocket either.
