Curtis Martin has a "bone-on-bone" condition in his surgically repaired right knee, a setback that has the Jets' coaching staff privately wondering if the future Hall of Famer will be able to suit up for his 12th season.

"The guy is bone-on-bone on the knee and can't play," a person with knowledge of Martin's injury said Tuesday, speaking on condition of anonymity. "No one has said he's not going to play, but I don't know how much more they're going to get out of the guy."

All's I got to say is that's depressing to hear even though you knew something wasn't right about this whole pup thing. That's a shame.

This just sucks. We need more youth at RB and now is the time anyway, but I can't stand seeing such a great guy and player go out under these circumstances. Same with Chrebet last year. Just a really crappy way to end a great career.

Don't be surprised if he hangs up his cleats. A human success story against all odds, hats off to a class act and a stellar human being on and off the field. Makes me very sad, but damn proud he was a Jet. Hoy, well he still is currently, but we'll see. Yo, TO, Curtis is how it's done, yo.

    This is sad and unfortunate.

    He will be truly missed.

A class act, amazing player, first ballot hall of famer.

Class of 2011? Class of 2012?

Usually these kind of rumors are based off of something. If this is the case, I would have to imagine Curtis would be done. RB's need healthy knees to produce. If Curtis doesn't have a healthy knee, I really hope he retires.

The greatest RB to ever lace it up for the Green and White and will always be remembered for his unbelievable toughness.

NOW, assuming Martin is done as a football player, I think the Jets should give one RB a chance at the full time job. Let Blaylock and Houston duke it out for the starting job. Personally, I love Cedric Houston and would love to see him become a 20+ carry a game back.

But then again, Having Cedric be the mauler and Blaylock be the slasher is a tempting idea. It could really throw defenses off switching the two of them up all year.

Absolutely! A true football warrior who played through injuries for his TEAM! Take notes TO. And a guy who used the hard lessons of his growing up to help other people.

He got abuse for indicating Curtis could be done and Pouha's injury was serious. I think. Or was that someone else? Meh.

I'll believe it when I see the warrior at his retirement press conference. Curtis won't go out this way. It's not in the man. He's the toughest SOB in football. NFL Network had a great documentary on Curtis a month ago; talked about how he had guns put to his head growing up, and how the gun didn't go off after three or four pulls of the trigger.

Maybe I'm delusional; but Curtis will not go out limping away from the game. I want what's best for Curtis, but he has too much pride. It's not in his DNA.

Hey pride is one thing, it's another when you've got a condition so serious that there's no cartilidge and you're walking with a pronounced limp.

Maybe he'll suit up for one final play, but he's not going to become a burden to the team if it's clear that he can no longer play professional football.

this guy is a warrior. if he has an ounce of play left in him i think he'll tough it out. He's one of the greatest of all time and a first ballot hall of fame PERIOD, no argument. I hate those who think jerome is a better RB. It is so far from the truth. Martin will be missed. I think he'll come back as a RB coach for the jets. That would be great. I cant imagine seeing the jets organization without curtis.
