http://www.drafttek.com/2015-NFL-Mock-Draft-Round1.asp TOP 6 PICKS OVERALL: 1. Winston 2. Mariotta 3. Williams 4. White 5. Gregory 6. Fowler JETS: 1. Dante Fowler, OLB, UF 2. AJ Cann, OG, South Carolina 3. Duke Johnson, RB, the U 4. Phillip Dorsett, WR, the U 5. traded to Bears for Marshall 6. traded to Seahawks for Percy 7. Sean Mannion, QB, Oregon St 7(from Bears): Wes Saxton, TE, South Alabama I would be pretty happy with this draft. I like Fowler although I'm not sure I would take him with Cooper still on the board. But Dorsett slipped to the 4th round so that kind of made up for it. I also like the flyer on Mannion in the 7th.
Wow, they get Duke Johnson AND Phillip Dorsett without even using their 2nd? That seems very unrealistic, but would be very awesome. Those two guys could potentially take this offense to another level. I'd rather see an OT than an OG though in the 2nd. Need to start planning for the future at both tackle spots and this could be a prime place value-wise. Don't love Mannion, but if it's the 7th round then he's worth a shot. Also, if adding a TE, I'd value one with blocking ability more.
Of course, I'd be upset about not getting the chance to draft Mariota and not taking an LT. Aside from QB, I think LT is our greatest need looking forward. It addresses all of our needs except QB, LT, ILB and FS, and we know that ALL of our needs can't be addressed in just this one draft. Some things are out of your hands and you just have to do the best you can. This draft would definitely help the team, and I love that it adds who I think will be the best pass rusher in this draft, and some significant help on offense. It would be hard passing on Cooper, but to finally get a potential stud pass rusher, it would be worth it, especially if we get Dorsett. Fowler could be the final piece to make our D a truly dominant D. It really hurts seeing both La'el Collins and Jake Fisher going at the top of the 2nd round. If the draft fell this way and I were going to nitpick, I might prefer the Jets trading up to the bottom of the 1st round and grabbing either Collins or Fisher. If not, I think I'd be tempted to take Kendricks or McKinney over Cann to secure David Harris' replacement, then look to grab an OG in the 3rd or 4th rounds. Since they signed Harris to that contract, they're probably thinking he can play another 2-3 years, however, and have time to find his replacement in this draft, and OG IS a more immediate and pressing need. I do like Cann and Laken Tomlinson at OG, and would be happy to get one of them, but it's a bit disappointing to have to draft an OG with all the players the Jets now have at OG - Carpenter, Aboushi, Dozier, Brewer, Colon and Winters. If they have any doubts (and perhaps they should), then I think it best to solidify the OL over adding depth at ILB. I can't see Dorsett sliding to the 4th round. I think he's more likely to go in the 2nd round, but for the sake of discussion I'll go with their order. That said, with Ogbuehi still on the board in the 4th, if the Jets like his potential, it might be better to take him and pass on Dorsett. They could sign Denarius Moore to a one-year "show me" deal to add some speed at WR. I don't know West Saxton. Is he more of a blocking TE? I certainly hope so! Also, is he a better prospect than Rory Anderson of SC? The only player/position taken that I'm not really happy with is Sean Mannion, but since he was taken in the 7th round, I can't even be too upset with his being picked.
Are you talking to me? It isn't clear. If so, my "fixation" on LT is because Brick's play has been deteriorating badly over the last couple of years, and I never thought he was that good to begin with. He's set to make over $17 million next season!!!! There's no way the Jets can pay Brick anywhere near that kind of money even with a bigger cap. I don't want to HAVE to try to find a rookie LT in the draft next year and then start him and have him protecting the QB's blind side. Do you? It's best to draft your LTs a year early, and either let them play at RT or OG and get their feet wet in the NFL for a season, before inserting them in the lineup at LT. Also, if Brick were to suffer an injury this season, they'd have a backup. As it is, OT depth is questionable at best.
Brick is still the team's LT, but his play has been a little iffy the past couple years, he's getting older, and making a lot of money. He's still a solid player and we can hope he continues or improves his level of play, perhaps how Mangold really turned it up last year. Then RT is a question mark because Breno was average-at-best last year and is also due a considerable salary. It's conceivable the Jets could be in the market for two new OTs in 2016 if things don't go well at the position this season. Drafting a potential heir at either spot this year would be wise
I don't think Saxton is a blocking TE. I think he had a freak 40 time at the combine but he's a receiving type TE that has struggled with injuries.
This mock is by no means perfect but it does address a lot of needs. I can see 2 immediate starters (Fowler, Cann) and 2 future starters (Johnson, Dorsett).
I just don't see anyway that Fowler falls to us as there seems to be a consensus that him and Leonard Williams are #1-2 overall but wouldn't that be a nice scenario. I wouldn't be upset with that Jadeveon Clowney clone going to us instead of the Redskins
OK, thanks. Then I think taking him would be a mistake, but again because it would be a 7th round pick, I can't grouse too much.
