I don't know if it was because it was only week 1 and Cromartie's still warming up, or if it's because Vjax is so big he Cro was scared of him..... but he needs to get more aggressive up at the line of scrimmage, at least two plays today that would have had different results if he gave Vjax a push or two at the line of scrimmage. Really hope to see him play more aggressively from now on, I think he was afraid of getting burned for a TD.
I agree. I would like to see him bump him on the line and interrupt his route ... get in his face before the 5yards and make it clear that he is going to have to battle for every inch
Totally agree. Was thinking to myself today, "what did all those monster workout hours amount to if you don't intend to use them...?"
Today, both corners needed to take away the inside, by sidestepping inside prior to the snap. Make Freeman beat you on low percentage throws. If they dont do that Thursday, theyll get toasted.
This was a coaching/technique issue.... Plus, if you watch any if the Jets shows, Cro doesnt bench all that much... On this mornings pregame, he was pumping about 155 for 6-7 reps. Im sure his overall stregnth is better, but hes no monster.
I wasn't talking about the actualy physical strength of Cro. I meant how he's an allegedly physical corner, and after hearing Rex preaching that time and time again over the years, I found it somewhat disappointing Cro didn't emphasize that on Vjax today.
Im worried about Cro on Amendola on thursday. Amendola is the type of wr who will really hurt Cro just like Welker.
With the Jets stacking the box to stop Martin, both Milliner and Cro were playing m2m, with little or no safety over the top help. If they got beat off the line on a fly pattern, it's 7 points. In those cases I can see DB's playing back just a bit to prevent getting beat for 7, but giving up the short slant as worst case. If a DB has safety help, he's more likely to jam the receiver, battle at the line, slow/stop the quick slant routs, knock the receiver off his rout, etc, and if the DB gets beat? No biggie, he has safety help.
I think we could see some Wilson on Amendola. Kind of like we did with Wilson on Welker for some plays.
Yeah the times Cro got in his face, he did work but don't play off and let your guy get the inside leverage...Freeman usually saw this and got em for positive gains. As for Amendola, I hope we'd see some Trufant who's quick like Amendola on him. We will see...the Pats offense isn't the same with the weapons.
We might do Trufant on Amendola as we tried that on Welker and it kind of worked last year. It's those backs I'm worried about vs our LBs. And agreed, Cro didn't bump the receivers enough and getr physical. He had flashes of it though, there was one replay they showed where Cro pushed VJAX off his break really quickly with one arm.
I was more concerned with the fundamental techniques. Yeah. I sound like a broken record, repeating that fundamental over and over again. Look. As a DB, you just do NOT allow the receiver to cross your face [without breaking out of the intended route.] Cro did just that. VJax burned him for what, 37 yards? off that play. [It was one of the more salient features in today's game. This is NOT all.] That was a piss-poor execution. I shouldn't have to worry about that happening to the leader of the backfield.
Vjax is a beast wide receiver, but did you watch the way Cro was playing him? It was as if Cro knew he was a beast, and played scared of him all game.
I've been talking about how unimpressed i've been with Cro during the offseason. He's soft. http://forums.theganggreen.com/showpost.php?p=2815061&postcount=43 http://forums.theganggreen.com/showpost.php?p=2815670&postcount=12
Cromartie needed serious help covering Jackson, but the game plan was to stop the running game and force Freeman to beat them with his arm. This is what teams did to the Jets with Sanchez, Freeman is this years Sanchez.
