breaking news via NFL Network. Just announced by the Combine team, per Adam Shefter. says that it WILL require surgery, and he will be out at least 10weeks. meaning he won't be back until basically the draft, this means he won't be able to run until the draft, at best. Note: this is the same surgery that Jonathon Stewart had last year at this time. just noted that it is in his left foot.
Just came here to post this. Good thing I check first, unlike some posters This is intriguing. Any chance he slips? The only results we have from the combine from him now are that he's an inch and a half shorter than previously reported. I still say Crazy Al would take a chance on him, but there's at least a chance he drops a bit.
I seriously doubt it causes a "plummet" but could this cause him to get bypassed by Seattle? Thats the question. i am definately positive somebody is enamored by Crab, so if he falls to the 6-7 range, will somebody move up to get him? Hell if he falls to 10 I want the Jets to go get him.
I still say he goes to Seattle no matter what. He's still pound for pound the best player in the draft.
Why do you think that? It's not all about the stats you know. That system pumped up his numbers. I'm not saying he's not a talented player, but I'd rather have Hakeem Nicks. Crab only measured in at like 6'1 - TTech made him seem much bigger listing him at 6'3. He has problems with drops. He runs mediocre routes. He probably runs in the 4.6s, maybe 4.5s.
Pair this with him checking in at 6-1 3/8 from a listed 6-3 and his stock took a hit. IMO he's looking at going to Oakland 7th overall. If not, than I don't think the Jaguars could pass him up at #8.
Totally agree, PA, and I think that's an astute observation .. I do think his stock has taken a hit, and maybe a bigger hit than even you suggested, but I agree that the reason is not one or the other, not the stress fracture or checking in at 6' 1", but both of those things combined .. its not either/or, its both On that note, much like Andre Smith, I don't think you can entirely dismiss the possibility of Crabtree sliding to 17 .. its still a long shot, but if you're the Jets I think you now have to consider that possibility and what you might do if it happens Yesterday I think even entertaining the possibility of Andre Smith or Michael Crabtree at 17 was a complete waste of time and energy, but now you have to consider those possibilities if you're the Jets
Crabtree definitely falls now. I can't see the Seahawks taking him. To be a top 4 player, you've got to be a pretty safe bet. That's a ton of money guaranteed to that slot. So given that Crabtree is 1) shorter than advertised 2) requires surgery 3) probably wasn't going to run well anyway I'd guess the Seahawks will go elsewhere with their selection. The team also have a tremendous need for a LT since Walter Jones had some injury issues last season (and is about 100 years old). So the smart bet would be for Seattle to use that pick on the best LT available of Eugene Monroe or Jason Smith. Either of those two would be an excellent pick at a need position for the Seahawks.
I wonder if misrepresenting his height has something to do with being a former basketball player. He was more than good enough at hoop to play at the D-1 level and gave some thought to playing both sports. At the Olympics NBA players always measure out exactly two inches shorter than what they are listed at. That's right, Jordan is 6'4'', Bird is 6'7'' and Magic is 6'6''. So maybe the football team listed him at exactly two inches taller in deference to his possible basketball career. I know that current Bills WR James Hardy played hoop in college and was listed at two inches taller than his real height by his college so maybe thats the way it goes for hoop players.
He will go in the 6-9 range and whoever takes him will get a steal. Graham Harrell is an awful QB but looked very good with Crabtree on the receiving end.
NCAA teams always give their players an extra inch or two. Nobody expected Crabtree to be taller than, at most, 6'2 and a half. And all he did was rush for 900 yards and TDs with a 4.5 YPC The 40 yard dash is so overrated. Jerry Rice ran a 4.7, Andre Johnson ran a 4.5, and Crab wouldn't run more than that. Crabtree will still be a great NFL wide receiver, and the Seahawks should still draft him. The combine is a waste of time for someone like Crabtree. Watching him play on Saturdays for two years tell you all you need to know about the kid.
Yea but with Smith, you really have to be concerned with his character. He will probably be a 1st rounder, but I don't want the Jets taking him
Crabtree's height was news to me before I posted my previous post. My bad. I still say Seattle can't pass him up at 4. I am sure they can go with an OL, but, WR is a pretty big need for them right now. Crabtree is going to get paid no matter what and won't fall past Oakland if he does slip. You all know Al Davis won't pass him up if he is there. Unless there is a guy who runs a 4.10 40....
The way he's handling it delaying surgery until after his workout I think is a positive note on his character.
totally agree. i said in another thread Maclin and Nicks(best hands ive seen in quite some time) are going to be the best WR's of this class. with Britt/Crabtree in a close third.
I'm very much big Maclin and Nicks fans......some team will draft Crabtree in the top 10 and it could push Maclin right to the Jet's at #17. The Seven teams (9-16) above the Jets, aren't in dire need of a #1 WR.
