Is it possible to move Vilma to safety? He has great speed, awareness and could really lay some people out. Could it work? Tell me what you think?
I don't see why not. It's been done in the past. If they use Vilma in a SS role, it almost be as if he were just an extra linebacker. Besides, he typically excels as a coverage linebacker anyway. Does anyone in here really think that he wouldn't outplay Abram Elam at the position? All he'd have to do is shed a few pounds.
We are bashing him like he wasn't any good. He was the only thing good on that defense for the last couple of years. Yes, the 3-4 isn't working for him, but to get rid of him is rediculas. Move him, he has a ton of speed. Maybe I just don't want to get rid of his Jersey yet..
There's also been talk of me entering the Astronaut program.... That too, strikes me as highly unlikely.
I feel the same way.....too much talent to dismiss. Get him a real NT to play behind or just move him around. Not a safety though.
Yes, he is talented. Yes, he has a great attitude and it would be a shame to get rid of him. Yes, moving him to safety is a terrible idea. Yes, he will be gone next year.
I've watched Vilma play for a long time, and I just dont see him succeeding as a safety. Although the 3-4 requires two ILBs, and Harris and Vilma could theoretically be them, the 3-4 takes away Vilma's strengths as a LB. it would be better to trade him for some value than continue to play an undersized ILB in a scheme that he doesnt fit into. But i still think he may start next year on the PUP list, which will make it next to impossible to trade him.
Well gee guys, you're all cancelling out the idea but i bet none of you have switched him to safety in madden.. hes a beast!
i switched chad pennington to safety in nfl 2k1 so i could use tory woodbury as qb after vinny got hurt.
Jetcane makes the best argument. This has nothing to do with whether or not Vilma is a great LB. Like a ton of players in the NFL, he thrives in 1 system (4-3), but struggles in another (3-4). I'll bet my season tickets that Harris wouldnt be as good as Vilma in a 4-3,...and not to take anything away from Harris. The 4-3 requires the MLB to have great speed, instincts & tremendous sideline to sideline pursuit. Has anybody considered what Vilma would think if the CS approached him & said "we'd actually like to move you to safety" ? I think we're back to trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. This is a business that the Patriots have demonstrated to be about winning,.....period. They've let a ton of guys go over the years & haven't looked back. Its time for the JETS to do what has to be done & that is trade VILMA in his youth with his current contract status WHILE WE CAN. Prospective 4-3 defense structured teams include Detroit, St. Louis, Cincinnati, New Orleans & a host of others to get a minimum 2nd round draft pick. Its time for us to get rid of the NICE GUYS moniker.
Well, for a linebacker, he's fantastic in coverage.. In fact, that's the only place where his absence is very notable even with Harris playing well.... But for a safety, Vilma would be like Roy Williams, a great run defender who is very susceptible to the deep ball.. That'd would hider Rhodes ability to roam and make plays, and hinder our defense in more way than one...
