Could the passing game be better without Holmes?

A lot has been made about the Jets' supposed lack of playmakers, but Kerley looks like a pretty dependable pass catcher, Schillens and Hill are raw talents with terrific physical gifts, and Keller has always had good, onfield chemistry with Sanchez. That receiving corps may not be intimidating, but there's potential there for it to be productive. I'm wondering if the passing game might actually be more effective with Sanchez feeling free to work the ball around to those guys, rather than feeling compelled to target the diva receiver who isn't even a legit, number one guy.

The on-field chemistry with Holmes was never really there, though it's hard to say he has much better chemistry with a rookie and 2 free agents in their first year.

Better may be a stretch, but I think the Jets will be fine at receiver against most teams.

There might be something to the theory that Sanchez felt pressure to get the ball to Holmes a certain amount of times where as without Holmes it might allow the receiving group to be better than the sum of its parts.

Still, that evidence is inconsistent and inconclusive at this point.

Its rare when someone says a team plays better without one of their best players, Ala Miami when they went 11-2 when Wade was injured...

But i have to agree simply because Holmes is a pouter. We have to force him a few passes just to keep him happy even if someone else was open. He ruins the flow of our offense because we always need to keep him happy just so he will play hard and not destroy our locker room.

I think we should trade Holmes because although a great talent, he has a horrible effect on the locker room, playcalling and most importantly our QB.

No. Holmes and Sanchez were connecting up until his injury. I was looking forward to seeing them do damage after all the media shit in the offseason.

definitely. Holmes is not a #1 receiver anymore. just a name one.

When he's on the field it creates unnecessary pressure for Sanchez to feed him the ball. U saw how effective Mark was today when he was feeding everyone

Holmes and Sanchez connected rarely, which is why every connection is memorable.

The true benefit of Holmes being out is with Sparano. Now he gets to draw up the game plan without a diva to keep cancer free. So yes, there is a chance the Jets' passing game will improve, but it starts with Sparano.

I think this maybe the case. I think Mark forced a lot of bad passes to Holmes to keep him happy. Time will tell. Can't really go off today's performance. Plus, Keller looked to be very gingerly today, I hope he gets closer to 100%.

    Absolutely.

I hated that tepid tub of horse shit for a reason.

I seriously think Jets should part ways with Holmes, and don't ever look in his direction.

Look up the first 4 weeks in 2010. Sanchez swept the afc east without holmes. When Holmes came Sanchez was never the same imo.

Sanchez and Holmes have decent chemistry. You guys just love to hate Holmes.

It seems so. At least it seems like the passing game is as good without as it is with. I agree with others that Sanchez is probably under pressure to throw to Holmes and Sporano is probably under pressure to draw up plays that direct the pass to Holmes.

The problem though is what to do with him if we end the season with a strong passing game without him. You can just bench him but that's a lot of cash to sit out. He's sitting on a big contract with lots of dead money if he gets cut so that's not really an option either. He'll be a hard one to trade away with his reputation and lack of production. That's probably the best option in that scenario.

Its really hard to say the passing game is better when you throw for 105 total yards before deducting sack yardage and your starting QB only averages 4.5 yards per attempt. (although for once Sanchez had a good completion rate of over 60%, but only 18 attempts).

Running game and defense dominated this game.

Thank T-Bomb, the architect of moronic contracts.

Could have been 7-19, 0 TD and 2 INT for 66 yards, with that diva constantly crying for the ball, no?

Sparano's far more likely to draw up a smash mouth running attack with Santonio watching from home.....

The simple fact that Hill did a first down signal but at the same time handed the ball to the ref was beautiful. Holmes and that stupidity waste so much time doing that every first down that when we need time to make a comeback we dont have it.

I have stated this in the past and I still believe this offense will function better without Holmes. Just look at the year we had santonio and Edwards the same year he missed the first four games and the offense was clicking very well without him. He came in and things turned south.

Yes Holmes does give this offense an occasional spark in the playmaking category but I don't feel that it is or ever will be enough to overcome the bs that is attached to Holmes. He can't break a double team, he often struggles at blocking anyone in the run game, he does not give it his all every play to gain seperation. He has been a cancer to this team. We function better without him and I still feel we kept the wrong receiver in the offseason.
