The Bills cut Spain today. The guy is a very good linemen (barring whatever unknown issues the Bills cut him for) and we need all the help we can get on the o-line. I wonder if Joe D is taking a look? https://nypost.com/2020/10/22/ex-bills-guard-quinton-spain-posts-cryptic-tweets-amid-release/
I honestly know nothing about him. Went to wiki and noticed he went undrafted back in 2015 so seems like a journeyman looking for his 3rd team. However 66 starts let's us know he has a lot of experience however good or bad, I have no idea.
We have two gaping holes at the guard position and lots of cap space. Locking Spain up for a few years now could be a very smart move.
I know nothing about him so please help enlighten me... If he's so good and worth locking up for multiple years, then why would Buffalo release him after being benched week 2?
I did find this info about him on Google "The 29-year-old former undrafted free agent signed with the Bills in 2019 after spending four seasons with the Titans. He played every offensive snap last season and did not allow a single sack of quarterback Josh Allen", according to CBS
That's a good question, the same thing that Bills fans and writers who follow the team has been asking. Seems like there is some other factor aside from his on-field performance. Hopefully we are at least giving him a look.
I would be surprised if we had any interest here. We are tearing our roster down. It's not time to start rebuilding it yet. Maybe after the season someone like this could make sense, as the offensive line remains a huge priority, but strengthening the team now seems pointless.
He was released because he got into a dispute with the CS. It appears that the dispute may have arisen because they benched him in favor of Winters. The only reason I could see for doing that is perhaps Winters is a better run blocker than Spain, Spain's ability is fading, or there is some off-field issue of which we're unaware. Maybe Winters is a better fit for their blocking scheme. Spain has been a very solid OG in the NFL for years. Winters, not so much. Under normal circumstances, I'd say the Jets should at least bring him in for a workout and quite possibly sign him, but since they appear to be tanking, I don't see the point in bringing in someone better at this point who could lead to a win. Also, with Douglas tearing the team down and doing a complete rebuild, he probably doesn't want any players who are 29 or older.
Spain is a very good Guard. Is a mauler in the run game and would be a huge upgrade over GRV. He got into a dispute with the coaching staff and was released.
He signed a 3 yr starter contract with bills, then weeks later is cut in favor of Brian Winters. Very strange. He tweeted "If only ppl knew the real reason", then deleted it. But ya, bring him in for a workout and a discussion on what 'really' happened over there. But he's never been rated very highly by PFF. Backup maybe?
While Jet fans wonder if we'll sign the Spain's of the world the freaking Buccaneers are out there signing the likes of Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, Leonard Fournette and Antonio Brown's of the football world to play alongside of Mike Evans and Chris Godwin! Smh we're currently @ an all time low Jet fans because castoffs like Quinton Spain doesn't exactly really move the needle for me lol
Are you saying the Jets should sign a talented player???But teams dont just cut good offensive linemen...especially good teams. So somethings up there.....
