What an awesome addition to the pass rush IMO. Obviously if he is 100% or not plays a huge factor, but Rex is one not to shy away from a potential star coming off a lingering injury.

And what has B. Thomas done for me lately?

Anyone know what Merriman's contract situation is? What he would be owed?

No chance. Even if he did drop that far down, Miami would snatch him up before us.

What the Jets COULD do is ask the Panthers or some other shitty team atop the waiver wire to claim him then offer that team a draft pick for Merriman.

    B. Thomas has been a solid player for you lately just like he always is.

He was busted for roids in 2006. In 2007 he had 12.5 sacks. Injuries and probably the change in scheme have been the problem.

I'd rather have Merriman than Moss. Our pass rush isn't as ferocious as I thought it would be by now.

Merriman would be worth a look if he cleared waivers and came really cheap. I don't know how much he has left.

He's definitely worth a look as a situational rusher/depth guy. I'd be ecstatic if we could resurrect a third SD reject. That said, I doubt he falls to us.

you would think we would be higher on the waiver list since we have no shot at the playoffs now.

Well worth it especially considering he is only 26. Rex is 2 for 2 on Charger's rejects.

However, he will never get there.

to me it never made since to put in a waiver claim for Merriman.

if i am correct we are 27 in the list. So its pointless to claim him unless we felt the 5 teams behind us were going to take him, which they arent.

A claim in this case puts us on the hook for his years pay with no benefit. If he gets through unclaimed, we can get him for peanuts.

While the same is true in the Moss case, at least there we would be trying to block and allowing him to return to NE for free...

So a waiver claim for merriman doesnt mean we dont want him, it just means we wouldnt be getting him via the waiver system.

To be honest, I don't know why ANYONE would put a claim in on Merriman. I'm sure a team will, but I wouldn't want to pay the balance on his $3.2 million contract for this year with concerns that he'd reinjure himself. It makes more sense if he slips through waivers and is free to sign for the minimum while holding the Chargers hostage for the balance of his contract.

I read that the Ravens were very interested in Merriman. If he came cheap it would be worth a shot, but I don't see it happening with the Jets.

It's worth the look we might be the missing piece in our pass rush.

Doubtful that he'd come here. Also, I think he was somewhat close to Woody Johnson's daughter (not in a good way), since Shawne Merriman punched out Tila Tequila, and I think that Tila Tequila was dating Casey Johnson, Woody's daughter. Maybe I'm just reading too far into it.
