Regardless of wether you'd like a G at #9 (or #13) or not, who do you think is the better player? I'm putting these 2 very well made videos because I think they do a good job of summing up the good and the bad. Of course the opinion of avid college football watchers is more than welcome. I'm seeing a lot of drafts with Cooper before Warmack and I really don't know why. It just happened really suddenly and seemed to come out of nowhere. But I think they're both as close to sure things as you're gonna get in this draft.
Cooper, good feet, pulls really well but is not quite the straight ahead pile driver Warmack is. Is best suited for zone blocking schemes. Warmack on the other hand is the complete package both in run and pass blocking. ND coach Brian Kelly (yesterday): "Chance Warmack was by far the most dominant blocker we faced all year...I think right now he can play against anybody."
The rankings of both players are extremely close. I like both equally, it's a toss up. Both players are going to be drafted right aroung the Jets at #9, give or take a few spots. When the first is drafted, the next will come off the board very quickly. Warmack gets more credit due to the fact he's on the National Championship team, rightly so, he deserves it. Warmack dominates in the power run game, he's a mauler. Cooper is an incredible athlete and pulling guard in space. I really like Cooper's intangibles, he's a great person and team leader. Listen to his interviews, he's funny, smart and loves football. I believe quite a few NFL teams have Cooper ranked higher. Cooper could be drafted ahead of Warmack based on the needs of the team drafting him. A team, like the Jets, in a WCO system ,would benefit with Cooper's abilities over Warmack. These players are so close in the rankings you can't say one is better than other , it all depends what a team wants in their interior lineman. Cooper is the option in Mornhinweg's system. Cooper is my #1 choice at #9 for the Jets with Jordan already gone. The Jets will have a plug and play player from day one for the next 10 years.
Warmack played in an elite Football conference. Cooper played in an elite Basketball conference. Advantage: Warmack.
That's a stupid comparison. You can do better. The best defensive player in NFL history came from a "basketball school (conference)", the same as Cooper.
Assuming we get the 13th pick and Jordan and Ansah are gone by our 9th pick. How crazy would it be to draft both Warmack and Cooper? I know they have different styles, but would that work? We could say our OL is the strongest part of our team.
I tell you what. I would not hate that move. most people would because offensive line are "boring picks" but I would love it. Mangold, Brick, Cooper, Warmack and Hunter, sick OLine.
Didn't really want to start a whole new thread to ask this, but I was just thinking: What would people's impressions be if the 9 and 13 were spent on Warmack AND Cooper? Would it feel like overreaching? I was just thinking along the lines of building inside out and truly solidifying the OL for years to come. I guess it'd also come down to how people feel about Incognito/Ducasse starting at the other position if only one of the two were drafted, or if neither were.
Well we kind of know that they are sure picks... If the value is there and noone wants to trade up then why not? It will help the offense as a whole, protect sanchez, allow bigger runs, It just wouldn't be a flash in the pan it would be sustained which si why I love talking trenches in football its where you need to invest to win games
A Brick, Cooper, Mangold, Warmack, Austin (or whoever) would be a great line for a long time. Like I said, it isn't realistic with the amount of holes we have to fill though.
Cooper fits WCO better imo. he played for the same team that Gio played for who is more of a WCO running back. and both thrived in that O. Chance Warmack comes from Alabama a team with more of a Smash mouth style. So i picked Cooper. Imagine if we got Gio and Cooper this year haha.. that would be nice as fuck !
Cooper is the more rare breed. Freakish pulling ability to go along w/ great strength at the point of attack. Warmack is a good prospect but every one of those Bama O-linemen benefitted from having one another around. Cooper had to stand on his own 2 feet to rise to the top.
