As everyone knows, we desperately need a FS. Calvin Pryor should be playing SS. He's a natural at it and has all the skills and talent to be an elite SS. But so far this off-season, we've signed ZERO safeties. What we HAVE plenty of now is cornerbacks. Revis, Cromartie, Milliner, McDougle, Skrine. Cornerback and Free Safety aren't drastically different. Let someone go back there and make plays.
Luckily the need for a pure FS is lessened when we play cover zero, which we can do more with Revis and Cromartie. That being said, I hope we get a FS. And the draft is pretty weak at FS, so I don't know what we'll do.
Is Gilchrist still an option? After seeing Moore sign with Houston for so little Im sure we could get this guy for cheap.
This. Gilchrist will be our FS. & If Rahim Moore was had for 5M, that probably saved us a good grip cuz the way things were looking we were probably gonna give him 6-7 and theres no way he makes more than Moore. His coverage is pretty damn good though. Plus we still got Allen hopefully he can get back to his ways and cover TE's... Marty B. and Gates destroyed him last year though.
I'm predicting J. Jarrett is going to be our FS and he may develop to be a good one with Revis around.
I thin it's a good situation for anyone to step into, revis, cro, shrine and Pryor.. Not gonna be mch pressure on the fs. It's crazy to think how good the d can be next year.
Cant say Ive seen much of him. Only thing Ive heard is that he is flexible to play between S/CB. I dont take too much into those rankings though. PFF has Skrine rated pretty horribly but didnt factor in that he played a lot on the outside against bigger guys. As a slot guy he could be outstanding. I could do without Gilchrist but another guy will have to be brought in Id assume.
CB and FS ARE drastically different. I liked the thought at first but it is a huge difference between being a man to man corner and covering a large field. It's between managing one player versus 2+ receivers. I doubt any of these guys would convert to FS and be anything more than hot garbage. I'd be fine with bringing Landry back on a cheap deal. With the CB's the Jets have they can deal with an average FS.
He has really good ball skills but he is fragile and would shatter into a zillion pieces with the physicality that position requires
I really don't want Gilchrist I rather just draft another saftey in round 3 or 4 and stick with Pryor
Pryor is a SS and that's where he needs to be. I don't like the idea of trying to convert a player into something he is not. Coples is the perfect example, he is a 4-3 DE and does not fit this system. We need a true FS period
