Jets will bring back LaDainian Tomlinson for 2011 season; John Conner slated to be starting fullback

    BY Bernie Augustine

The Daily News has learned that the Jets will bring back LaDainian Tomlinson for 2011. The future Hall of Fame running back was the team’s leading rusher in his first season with Gang Green. He was also the unquestioned inspirational leader.

He will be a part of a backfield by committee with Shonn Greene and Joe McKnight. Tomlinson’s start off the 2010 season on fire. He eventually split carries with Greene, but remained a valuable pass catching option for Mark Sanchez throughout the season.

When I caught up to Tomlinson in Dallas during Super Bowl week, he left little doubt that he wanted to return to the jets as long as his role was clearly defined. He also made it clear that he was amenable to not being a starter.

The Daily News has also learned that second-year pro John Conner will be slated to be the starting fullback in 2011. So, veteran fullback Tony Richardson’s tenure with the Jets is likely over. Richardson is an unrestricted free agent.

The Jets nearly let Tony go last year, this isn't a surprise. I'm disappointed Tony never got tot he SB and I hope he has some role w/in the organization. For all the negative attention our team receives there is never a negative thing said about tony.

No question Conner has the physical capacity to replace Richardson. I hope he learned enough last year from him above the (lack of) neck.

If T-Rich calls it a career I think he'll find a spot in Jets management. They really like him and the last I heard that was something that interested him.

T-Rich will be missed probably more off the field than on it. Good player, great guy by all accounts. But now it's the Terminator's time to knock some heads off.

I second this. I'm ecstatic LT is being kept; his experience will be a boon to the young RB corps, and we should be able to load him with fewer carries. I'm sure part of the timing of the announcement is to ensure LT gets right into his training regimen.

I'll second that, a real team player and never one to shoot his mouth off and make his self and the team look stupid.

The ideal man to show young players how to conduct themselves.

    Cheers T Rich

Glad LT is back, gonna be annoying to see everyone bitching about him being in the game while Greene sits on the bench in the 4th. Learn how to catch and pass block Shonn!

Needed to happen. Frees up a spot on the depth chart that could go to McKnight on gameday.

Carrying two FBs was a waste of a roster spot. I wish TRich the best. He was a great Jet.

Conner hits like a truck. Him and Greene in short yardage will be great to watch.
