The inability of this country to be rand by the people for the people lies within Congress and noone bats an eye about it 100% of House seats are up for re election 33% +/- of Senate seats are up for re election If people want change it starts with the people in Congress. If we are tired of the direction of this country stop voting for incumbents and lifetime congressmen(&women).
I firmly believe that House members should be limited to no more than 4 terms (8 years) ans Senators to no more than 2 terms (12 years). Would take a Constitutional Amendment and good luck getting 67% of Senators and Congressman to propose to vote themselves out of a career. Of course it could get proposed by getting 34 state legislatures to call for a constitutional convention, but that has never been done.
Ron DeSantis a Florida Rep. just introduced a bill which would phase in term limits. It would allow House members to serve a maximum of three two-year terms, while senators could serve up to two six-year terms. It would not apply to current members of Congress. Because it exempts the current members it seems it would have a much better chance of passing.
Between Term Limits and repealing/reversing Citizens United, we have our work cut out for us as citizens.
Correct me if I'm wrong, the government is supposed to be for the people, not in charge of the people. How did we let this happen?
Ever around people who just don't care about politics? Years...Decades ....maybe a Century of the people turning the blind eye while others do their bidding
I was being rhetorical. We are too distracted with DirecTV, Netflix, iphones, Pokemon Go, and Kardashians. People only vote for president, mayor, and governor, but ignore any local elections. That's assuming that they vote at all.
It's just quite aggravating being a young adult(27) with no one around with the common sense to pay attention. They(media) are trying to divide us and it's happening; there is more hate in this world then in the last couple decades
Agreed, but unions and non profits more often than not put their names on donations. Corps and the uber_rich hide behind "SuperPacs".
