Once again the Irish won't join, they're making more money as an Independent and they already have plans to play games in Orlando and other locations.

I seriously doubt that they would regret closing the doors on Penn St. and the Big 10 stands more for Midwest football then the number

Notre Dame will never join because of their lucrative deal with NBC that they would only hold onto by staying independent.

    Realistic options would be:
    Northern Illinois
    Akron
    Iowa State?
    Marshall
    Bowling Green
    Cinci?

Iowa St.'s in the Big 12 North, why would they ever move to the Big Ten?

Seriously doubt Rutgers would head over there as the article suggests, the Big East would be pretty much sent under with such a move.

None of those schools are qualified enough to join the big 10, personally I think Syracuse or Pittsburgh would be a good fit

I think Rutgers would jump at the move, in terms of prestige the Big Ten is much better than the Big East, and Rutgers would get more money in the move

While true, it's not really a move that Rutgers can make right now. Besides the fact that they are still a rising team, moving to the Big Ten would greatly hamper the progress they've made in the past two seasons. Whereas they are already competing for BCS games and money every year now, they'd be a ways away from really scaring anyone in the Big Ten. Plus the last major jump they had (up to the Big East years ago) knocked them back for quite a long time, so I figure they'd wait until they have an elite level team before ever changing conferences.
