    State of the team:

At the start of the off season this team needed around 9 new starters (FB, RT, LG, #3 WR, NT, ILB (because Vilma was as good as gone), OLB, #2 CB, FS). Currently 5 of those positions have been filled (FB Richardson, RT Woody, LG Faneca, NT Jenkins, OLB Pace), leaving a need to replace McCareins at #3 WR, Vilma at ILB (Barton is good but he?s not a 3-4 player, he should be replaced), Poteat at #2 CB, and Elem at FS.

    Needed players in order:

FS: Elem just isn?t good enough he?s aggressive which is great but he is reckless. At this time I feel that replacing him is a huge need for this team.

CB: the only reason that CB isn?t number 1 is because Poteat is a good player, he isn?t #2 he is a #3 but he?s still a very good player and hopefully will be resigned soon

WR: Coles is bitching about his contract but he?ll probably get that reworked, if his contract gets reworked than we only need a #3 WR. Smith is good but he?s better at trick plays than being a reliable player there for picking up a #3 WR is our third biggest need.

ILB: Harris is sick but Barton is overrated, I have a feeling he will be cut in camp

OLB: Thomas was good 2 years ago but blew this year maybe his replace should be drafted to compete with him

FB: Richardson was a great pick up but he?s 36 will be 37 by the end of the season, not our long term solution at all

DE: Ellis is good but will be 31, this is most players prime but he may start slowing down soon, drafting someone to split time with him can never hurt

RB: Most running backs never make it much past 33-35, Thomas will be 30. Good running backs take a few years of nfl grooming to get into the flow

    Signing/Resigning

Rhodes: Give the guy a long term deal, he?s our best player something like 5-6 years 20- 30 million

Coles: let him finish his career as a Jet something like 4-5 years 15-25 million

Hobson: good player provides knowledge of the 3-4 and depth 2-3 years 6-9 million

Poteat: great backup 2-3 years 4-6 million

Eric Moulds: gets us our #3 WR, 1-2 years 1-4 million

    Trades:

Dwayne Robertson to the Lions for a 4th: Robertson blows but may be good in a 4-3, the Lions lost Rodgers and need to replace him and the Jets need to dump his contract

Jets trade #6 overall to Denver for #12 and #44: Denver tried to get Robertson and Rodgers and couldn?t get either, either Dorsey or Ellis will fall past #6 and they need them, so they are willing to do the trade, we do the trade because Long, Gholston, and McFadden will probable be gone but if their not we really don?t need a RB or OLB that bad, plus all three will be way to expensive

Jets trade 4th rounder from New Orleans (for Vilma) 4th rounder from Detroit (for Robertson) and a 2009 5th rounder to Atlanta for their 3rd rounder: Atlanta needs help in a lot of places so they want more picks but most of their players are good enough to play one more year while the 4th rounder?s develop, also they have a 1st and 2 second rounder?s

    Draft:

1st (from Denver): Kenny Phillips FS: He will come in and start right away, think of this Rhodes and Phillips our safeties for the next 10 years. Here is some info on him

    http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingreports/s/kennyphillips.html

    http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/kenny-phillips?id=1375

2nd: Antoine Cason CB: I have a feeling this guy will drop because of how many CBs are in this draft, he?ll be starting by the end of the year. Here is some info on him and alternatives if he is gone by now:

    http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/antoine-cason?id=208

    http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingreports/cb/antoinecason.html

    Alternatives:

    Brandon Flowers:

    http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/brandon-flowers?id=754

    Terrell Thomas

    http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/terrell-thomas?id=326

    Tracey Porter:

    http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/tracy-porter?id=1300

2nd (from Denver): Curtis Lofton ILB: Everything I have read about him is that he is the best 3-4 ILB in this draft. Harris and Lofton will tear it up for a long time, helps our run defense right away. Here is some info on him:

    http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/curtis-lofton?id=774

    http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingreports/ilb/curtislofton.html

3rd (from Atlanta): Shawn Crable OLB: Will work and compete with Thomas and maybe in a year or two take his position. He had 28.5 tackles for a loss last year, at this point I feel he is a steal. Here is some info on him:

    http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/shawn-crable?id=214

    http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingreports/olb/shawncrable.html

4th: Kendell Langford DE: NFL.com compares him to Ty Warren, a small school prospect who will give the aging Ellis a breather and will take his position when his contract goes up. Here is some info on him:

    http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/kendall-langford?id=270

    http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/scoutingreports/de/kendalllangford.html

6th: Jerome Felton FB: I know FB isn?t a huge need but this guy will back up Richardson learn from a future all of famer and in the mean time he will be our power running back because we know Washington isn?t that type of back and only one rushing touchdown for Thomas scares me. Here is some info on him:

    http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/jerome-felton?id=230

    7th: OG: best left

    2008 roster:

    QB: Clemons/ Pennington
    RB: Thomas/Washington
    FB: Richardson/Felton
    WR: Coles/ Cotch/ Moulds / Smith/
    TE: Baker/ Franks/ Dearth
    LT: Ferguson/ Bender
    LG: Faneca/ drafted OG
    C: Mangold/ Smith
    RG: Moore/ drafted OG

    DE: Ellis/ Langford/ Mosley
    NT: Jenkins/ Pouha
    DE: Coleman/ Langford/ Mosley
    OLB: Thomas/ Crable/ Hobson
    ILB: Lofton/ Hobson
    ILB: Harris/ Hobson
    OLB: Pace/ Crable/ Hobson
    CB: Revis/ Carson/ Poteat/ Coleman

Boy, some of you guys really love the secondary.

If you were going to trade away our 6th pick and a shot at Long/Gholston/Mcfadden and the chance to get a guy who can step in right away, shouldn't focus more on something of a sure thing then DB's???

I would hope if the FO trades down it's to add Kentwan Balmer/Dre Moore and James Hardy/Devin Thomas.

The only move I don't see happening is the Atlanta trade. Everything else is possible. I don't think we would use the first pick on a safety either. You don't need a #1 to fill that position, and some good DE's will still be there(much harder to find)

I don't get the Kenny Phillips love, personally, but we know that Mangini is a secondary coach and loves to have a full stable of DBs. Personally I like Brandon Flowers the best out of this draft class of CBs (best football player, but worst athlete sadly), and he is someone that may very well be around with our second round pick. If we don't take a corner with our first rounder and our picks stay put, I would expect Mangini to get another corner with our second rounder. We've got six first round talent corners (McKelvin, Rogers-Cromartie, Jenkins, Flowers, and Cason) in this draft and it would be a shame to not come away with one. In addition to my preference of Flowers, he is probably the most likely to drop due to his poor combine.

Either Balmer or Moore would be amazing to have on the Jets, too. Personally, I'd go with the more raw Moore. That's just me.

And MitM, don't call your draft amazing and then ask for peoples' opinions. That's just asking to be shot down.

dude no way we "double down" on dbs

but seriously, I'd rather have a top corner like DRC then Phillips. Then in the second build depth on the oline and dline. Maybe if we traded down to like somewhere in the 20's i could see us drafting Phillips but i dont think he has the value at 12

Also, don't call your off season model amazing until you can spell the name of the Jets quarterback.

last year the sixth overall pick LaRon Landry signed a 5 year 41 million deal

the 12th pick Marshawn Lynch signed a 6 year 18.9 million deal

Long/Gholston/Mcfadden although great will do nothing more than be back ups for 2 years because Thomas signed a huge contract last year and Thomas is still good.

The reason I have us picking Phillips is because we went 4-12 last year we need help bad!!! Phillips can help right away, most other guys will back someone up, Sweed is a good player but he will be nothing more than a back up to coles, Phillips will start right away, and he'll be good remember until other players blew up he was projected to go in the top 10.

Believe me, Mangini will play whoever is the best player out of camp. They will eat thomas' contract if long/gholston can beat the hell out of him talent wise.

McFadden would come in on certain situations and be a viable piece in the gimmick packages BS throws out.

You realize the Jets play on offense too, right? First 5 picks go to the D? Also if DRob could be traded for a 4th he would have been long gone by now. He is going to end up getting released..
