http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/bi...tinues-inevitable-march-toward?urn=mlb-wp4095 Not sure how it works but the commish wants 10 teams in the playoffs. I'd rather see 12 like the NFL for balance with a 154 game regular season. Interesting fact if they had used this format from 1997 on the Red Sox and Yankees would of made the playoffs every year.
The only justification for the ridiculously long regular season that baseball has was that making the playoffs was such a big deal. If they're going to keep adding more playoff slots then the regular season is just going to be a stat accumulation competition.
Does it really water down the playoffs though? all this does is give more incentive to win your division rather then have to fight through another team just to get to the 1st round, and just an extra game or a best out of 3 isn't going to add that much more to the playoffs
It does I think. There are already .500ish NL West teams getting in, and there aren't any teams that I can recall that really deserved to be in the playoffs and just missed out on the Wild Card. Baseball's playoffs are perfect as is, no need to mess with it.
