Coles still loyal to his good friend PenningtonBY ERIK BOLAND | erik.boland@newsday.com September 12, 2008 FLORHAM PARK, N.J. - Laveranues Coles spoke for only the second time since his good friend Chad Pennington was released to make room for Brett Favre, and he gave the amateur psychologists plenty with which to work. "I don't have a feel for him and he doesn't have a feel for me," Coles said yesterday of his on-field relationship with Favre. "That is one of the things I am going to have to deal with. In the past I've always known when the ball was coming. Now you don't really know." Coles still is fiercely protective of Pennington, with whom he still talks often. "Again, our relationship goes deeper than just football," Coles said. "He's happy, I'll tell you that much. Any time you're somewhere where you're really wanted and people are excited about having you there ... He's happy to be there and I'm happy for him." Coles, who missed the four preseason games with a hamstring injury, has not sounded enthusiastic about having Favre as his quarterback and didn't again yesterday, but he said Sunday that's a product of loyalty toward Pennington. It also should be pointed out that Coles and Favre, whose lockers are next to each other, have been seen talking and laughing with each other, both at practice and in the locker room, from the time Favre arrived. "There are no quarrels with me and Brett," Coles said Sunday. "Never been since Day 1." Feely fired up Kicker Jay Feely, who signed with the Jets Monday night to replace the injured Mike Nugent, said one Sunday sitting at home watching games was enough for him. "It was exciting," Feely said of getting the call from the Jets. "It gives you a different perspective. It's very humbling to sit at home and watch the game, and I kind of realized how much I loved to play and how much I still want to play. Not that that had waned at all, but when you're not playing, you appreciate it a lot more." Injury update DB David Barrett (shoulder), Coles (thigh), DE Shaun Ellis (hand), WR Marcus Henry (calf) and CB Justin Miller (foot) were limited in practice. For the second straight day, WR Sam Aiken (knee) and TE Ben Watson (knee) did not practice for the Patriots. LB Eric Alexander (calf), WR Jabar Gaffney (knee), CB Ellis Hobbs (shoulder), WR Randy Moss (back), and CB Lewis Sanders (head) were limited.
I'm ready to have Chansi, Jerricho and Brad as our three wide receivers. Let's ship Coles to Miami for a conditional 4th. He's about as useful as Wayne Chrebet was towards the end of his career, except Wayne was a stand-up Jet and LC is a fucking douchebag.
Can't do it because the fools in our FO guaranteed his money for the next two years. Nobody would ever take on that contract.
I never understood why so many people were willing to cut him slack when in the past he was at least as bad as Kendell. Now, as it turns out, he seems to be even much worse. You read what he says and it sounds like he could give a shit less whether or not the Jets win and he seems to have no intention of ever getting on the same page with Favre.
I think Coles will be fine eventually. He is a football player and will miss the spotlight eventually. He will pick up his game once he sees the other WRs making all the plays.
"I don't have a feel for him and he doesn't have a feel for me," Coles said yesterday of his on-field relationship with Favre. "That is one of the things I am going to have to deal with. In the past I've always known when the ball was coming. Now you don't really know." Coles says: He doesn't have chemistry with Favre yet. "Again, our relationship goes deeper than just football," Coles said. "He's happy, I'll tell you that much. Any time you're somewhere where you're really wanted and people are excited about having you there ... He's happy to be there and I'm happy for him." Coles says: Chad is a good friend of mine and I'm happy for him because he's happy. "There are no quarrels with me and Brett," Coles said Sunday. "Never been since Day 1." Coles says: I have no problems with Favre and he has none with me. Jets fans say: What a whiny bitch, get him off the team. Coles is a baller and he's going to help this offense out a lot once he gets on the same page with Favre. Stop looking for reasons to hate him.
I'm sorry I don't fall into the group think going on here. People are going nuts over nothing really. Keep following the herd if you want.
I guess that makes 2 of us. The media takes little quotes out of context to make something out of nothing...... :shit:
I can see him being loyal to his friend on a personal level, but professionally, his loyalty MUST lie with the team that pays him the big bucks. Coles is a bag of douche. I find it ironic that he has a man crush on the guy whose ducks have gotten him smeared all these years.
Wow... this is what passes for news. I guess it would surprise the world to learn that when pro athletes become friends and then change teams... they often remain loyal to them regardless of the colors they are wearing. *GASP!* I know... it's a lot to take in. Congratulations to all of you having your puds pulled by these journalists with no QB controversy to write about. Bravo!
The media is puffing this up. Hey, the game is called pro football. Coles is getting paid. Do I not show up at my job because I would prefer that some of the people I work with were different? Coles is getting paid. He knows it. Chad is not paying him. The Jets are. Don't blow this out of proportion.
Little quotes out of context? Evidence of that? It seems to me they quoted an interview pretty much verbatim.
Another one who can't see the forest for the trees. Maybe if you took off your green glasses you could.
