In a locker room interview Coles made it pretty clear that he and Chad are a package deal. Chad pretty much sealed his fate today (again) and I have a really hard time seeing us keeping his salary as a backup. So the likelihood is that neither Coles nor Chad will be a Jet next year. I am actually OK with this. Chad is done, and Coles is one more hit from retirement. I cannot believe in any trade rumour this early like the KC one, but I do think that both will be gone in the offseason. It is quite possiblle we no longer have three of this years Captains on next years team.

Be careful about how you talk about Coles and hits hurting his career...people will jump all over you. I know from experience.

I'll be glad to see both of them go. They are no good to us now.

Coles is a really good receiver to have on your team when he is healthy. Only problem with that is that Coles was always dinged up.

I think if the Jets do infact trade Pennington this offseason, it will include Coles because the guy will just bitch and moan too much to the press.

Love both of those guys, but their Jet careers are probably done.

Don't take the criticism too hard buddy. People are just frustrated over this craptastic season.

id love to have both on my team, they play for the team and not $$$ and a re good guys but yeah, i feel that the FO will go in another direction. if they do let coles go, please do not rely on smith or mcdud. they have to go and get 2 stud wide outs. trading coles and not upgrading will be the worst decision ever.

I really wanna see Coles get healthy over the offseason, have a solid TC, solid preseason and have him ready to go next year with the Jets.

Add another solid starter on the O-Line to play alongside Ferguson and Mangold... Draft D.McFadden to split time with Thomas Jones, have Kellen ready to go... With Coles and Cotchery making plays... And I see this as a solid Offense next year with Brad Smith in the slot.

Oh sure...go get two stud WR's. That should be easy.

I think they would be fortunate to get ONE stud WR.

I want Coles to stay too, but I just don't see him being a happy camper after we ship Penny.

It's not like they are married or anything like that... Yea they are really good friends and Coles has always been Chads go to WR... But at the same time, even Coles knows that Chads career as a solid starting QB may be over and done with. Coles should retire a JET

I don't see how anyone can say we're better off without Coles. Yeah he's moody but he's also busted his butt between the white lines and that's no small thing on a 3-12 team especially considering how injured he's been. And he can play.

I do worry that his career arc may spiral downward pretty quickly because of the injuries and his body size, he plays too tough for his body if anything. But if we have to replace Coles too then we need at least two receivers (in addition to our other myriad of needs on offense) because clearly the only other NFL receiver on this team is Cotchery.

Wow... How long have you been watching football?

Other than Moss, Ownes, C.Johnson, T.Holt, M.Harrison and maybe S.Smith... L.Coles is as good as a #1 WR as you can get. It's not Coles' fault that he never had a strong armed QB like a B.Favre, P.Manning, or T.Brady throwing him the ball, because if he did... Watch out.

No, people will call you out for a D-bag when you trash the guy for not getting you any fantasy points. It's not Coles' fault you're a shitty fantasy GM.

I won my league by the way. My bad for starting Coles in my flex position, I still won last week. It's not my fault GOOD fantasy players, like Roy Williams and Marvin Harrison got injured during the season and I had to play Coles because no one else was left. I can't do anything about injuries. It's Coles fault that he always gets injured and he hasn't produced for the team this season.

It's also not my fault that Coles is an injury prone receiver. I can't wait for Pennington and Coles to leave. Everyone compliments him for playing through injuries -- he's ALWAYS injured. I don't care how tough he is. If he replaced his "toughness" with big play ability it would be a different story, but he isn't capable of changing games with one catch and we need to bring in someone that can. He can't consistantly get open. He can't win most jump balls. He isn't a number 1 option, and his ability to play as a number 2 is slipping away from him after every hit.

    Preach to 'em.
Coles and Penny have been synoymnous with NYJ franchise since 2001 but it's time to say goodbye. I'd like to see Ellis leave with them.
Thing is, Cotchery is younger and has an obvious future within the offense. Having Cotch AND Coles, players the same size and who like to go over the middle - Coles being injury prone and older - is counterproductive. It's time to get a real deep threat in the draft or FA so we can compliment the effectivness of Cotch and Baker underneath.

Coles has never been on the level of those players. he's too small and he doesn't make enough explosion plays.

you mean the same Coles that took the money and ran to Washington, and then wanted back to the Jets so bad that the contract he got from Washington to bolt from the Jets wasn't good enough anymore and wanted more money again to return. yes, he isn't about the $$$ at all.

playing hard in no way correlates to not being interested in the $$$.

I love Coles but I'd add these guys to the list of receivers I'd rather have than him.
    Reggie Wayne
    Braylon Edwards
    Marquis Colston
    Larry Fitzgerald
    Plaxico Burress
    Andre Johnson

Count me in on the Jon Vilma for Roy Williams trade with Detroit, and the Penny and Coles to KC for a 1st round pick bandwagon.

3 players I love, but if Coles goes we need "that guy". Williams fits the bill, and with the emergance of Harris, Vilma is expendable.
