Speculating that Schotty gets some significant HC-searching love again this off season, and assuming Matt Cavanagh steps up and in for him if he leaves - Callahan remaining Asst. Head coach, who would you like to see come in as a QBs coach? I'd love to see Vinny doing something for the Jets again. And if Chad's career is indeed over (never say never) do you think he could step in somewhere, if not the Jets, right away - one year removed? I doubt Tuna would let him go anywhere if he wanted to coach considering he's a "Tuna Guy". I know these are good types of problems, and I know it's only Week 3 - I'm my own worst hypocrite:http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=48197). I also know there are other candidates - better candidates. But I like Jets alums. And I also like to take the pressure off of a big week with a random thread here and there. It's zen for ye.
Another 'way too early' thread. Schotty will have to continue to call a competent gameplan through the end of the season to get any play as a HC candidate. And if Sanchez keeps progressing the way he is, I doubt he leaves anyway. He would make much more money as a HC candidte with a couple of rings on his fingers.
Someone said in another thread that the best way to really get paid when making the jump from an assistant to HC was to win the Super Bowl. Let's hope that happens to Schotty.
I know it's early but so far our offense has only jumped from 16th to 12th not bad but he has to be in the top 10 for the year if this team is to make it to the playoffs.
Considering 12 teams make the playoffs and our defense is sure to be a top unit I don't think it's a requirement that the offense is top 10.
I like Jets alums, just not Vinny Testaverde. I don't think I've ever seen a less impressive guy with that much physical talent. I can't remember how many times I sat at my television set yelling "novinnyno!!!" as he inexplicably threw the ball away over the middle. To me, he just wasn't very savvy. I think the best quarterbacks coaches weren't necessarily the best quarterbacks, but the guys who know the intricacies of the position. Ultimately, I don't think it matters much, unless you have a total dud. I don't think Sanchez is the kind of project player that needs heavy coaching up. -X-
I think it will happen in 2011 and not 2010. Schotty an dSanchez, along with the whole offense, are doing a good job... but you can't be that spectacular with a rookie QB. Next year however, with Sanchez in his second year and hopefully with another good WR he could turn some heads.
This is just another thread where the message virtually is we should bring Chad in as a QB coach or somehow allow him to be involved with the team. I say fuck Chad and everybody that looks like him. Besides, if he's such a good/great QB that shows the ability to teach others to become better...why would the Dolphins let him go knowing they have Henne, White and Thigpen on their roster. It doesn't make sense. Let him stay there and preach the dink-n-dunk method to their QB's. Keep him as far away from Sanchez as possible. First off, I don't believe Schotty will go anywhere. But anything could happen. Let's look at a couple of places that could be in line for a HC next year. Raiders Panthers Vikings - If Favre leads them to another huge collapse. But I doubt it. Chargers Texans Bills Redskins There are 3 successful and accomplished coaches out there that will get a lot of attention. Mike Shanahan Bill Cowher Jon Gruden Shanahan looks like he might take the Washington job. But there's also a possibility he joins his son in Texas for the Texans HC job. But there's talk already that Snyder is sniffing around Mike Shanahan already. That will leave Panthers, Bills, Chargers, and Texans pushing for Gruden and Cowher. Oakland is out because none of these coaches will go to Oakland. Especially Gruden. Oakland goes on to re-hire Art Shell. Let's say Gruden goes to Carolina and Cowher goes to the Chargers. That leaves Bills and Texans. I could see the Bills try to make a move on Schotty. He would have info on our O and certainly have knowledge of our D. Not to mention he'll attempt to coach Edwards (another young QB). So, even tho I don't see it happening, there's a slight chance he might get a call in the off-season.
There's also Mike Holmgren. But the trend seems to be fresh faces - both on the sidelines and behind center. Look at all of the new head coaches the past few seasons: Jets (both Ryan and Mangini), Ravens, Falcons, Lions, Broncos, Chiefs, Raiders, Dolphins, Rams, Bucs, Colts, 49ers, Steelers, Bears, etc. If the Jets stay healthy and get better throughout the season - Schotty is gone.
I'm not saying you're wrong, but in my opinion, the Cowboys just need to make the playoffs as a Wildcard, and win a game or two. The Chargers need to make it to the Conference championship or Super Bowl in order for Turner to keep his job.
Oh I agree. I think Turner and Phillips are unemployed next season. Barring a Super Bowl run for either.
I'd love for the Cowboys to get nowhere this year. Their owner is so annoying and the media darling image they have is just sickening. America's team? pfft
