Age in regards to AJ doesn't matter right now, but that contract is rough. If he's willing to restructure I would love AJ here. Him and Decker would be sick.
He has another 3 or so years of playing left in him. I know we'll never do it, but boy would it be legit if we got him.
Andre Johnson would be a luxury at this stage given his cost and the uncertainty at QB. This would be a Tannenbaum move and our $ / draft picks better spent elsewhere while giving one of our many WRs a chance to step up. Could see him restructuring for a team that's a piece or two away from the Superbowl.
It's hard not to salivate over Johnson, Decker, Kerley, Nelson, and the one or two next best in camp as the game day roster. That said, I don't see the Jets (or anybody) taking a $15m/yr cap hit for any new player, especially one that turns 33 before the coming season.
No way. Besides, AJ wants to go to a contender. NE, Seattle, SF, and even Carolina would seem like better fits.
Love the player but there is no chance this happens. We won't pick up his contract without a complete restructure. Plus I fear we would have to give up future high picks for a player who has 2-3 years left.
Because a stud wide receiver suddenly became a possibility for a team with very little receiving talent.
Andre Johnson the football player (not to be confused with Andre Johnson the rapper, who removed his male organs whilst high on PCP a few weeks ago) was overheard saying that he's not sure that the Texans are a good fit for him anymore. There is speculation that he will ask to be traded. Personally, I don't think that it's going to happen. He won't want to take a huge pay cut (most likely) and even if he is willing to, it would be to go to a team like the Patriots or Broncos.
If he was cut, why would he want to come here? NE, Seattle, Denver, and the 49ers would probably be the front runners to get him. Maybe even Carolina. AJ wants to win a SB. Only way we have a chance is if we trade for him, and that's not happening.
Nice player but would be crazy for the Jets to take on that contract (even with their cap space) and even less sense for the Texans. Should be a non-story from a NY Jet standpoint.
