Can almost guarantee it wasn't even a team fan, just someone smart enough to realize that it was a script retweeting everything and saw a chance for bad publicity.
It is we need to watch what we need to say and how we say it. You are a role model to that person no matter what!
I could care less what team the person was a fan of, I just saw it as a chance to give bad publicity to one of the most hated sports teams in America, I have a hard time believing it was a fan of them that did it. The (very) immature side of me found it pretty funny, and I love the team. I'm not disappointed at all like so many others are pretending to be, it's twitter and it was a stupid idea for an irrelevant "achievement" that doesn't have any relation to the team itself. I just don't think it was a NE fan, that's all.
