Time for the nightly summary of rumors and pre-draft buzz: - Yes, it's true: The Jets are interested in Brady Quinn and Jason Campbell. They're also still interested in trading up for Mark Sanchez. Don't under-estimate the Jets' feelings for Sanchez. They really want to come out of this weekend with another quarterback, which tells us everything we need to know about the organization's feelings for Kellen Clemens and Brett Ratliff. - I don't think the Tony Gonzalez trade will have a huge impact on the Jets, who like Oklahoma State TE Brandon Pettigrew. Obviously, the Falcons (No. 24) are out of the tight-end market now that they have Gonzo, but the Eagles (No. 21) need one. With the Eagles sitting only four spots behind them, the Jets can't get too cute about dealing down and still hoping to get Pettigrew. - I had someone tell me today that the Jets really like Florida WR Percy Harvin and could take him at 17. That would be a controversial pick -- and a stunner. I'm not saying Harvin isn't a good player (he's a dynamic playmaker), but there are medical and character issues. They'd have a lot of 'splaining to do if they pick him. A scout from another team had this to say about Harvin, who reportedly tested positive for marijuana at the combine: "It's not the pot that worries us -- half the league smokes pot -- it's the medical stuff." He's had multiple foot/heel/ankle injuries in his career. (Gratuitous shot: Team Harvin with Shaun Ellis, and you'd have the Jets' version of Cheech and Chong.) - If the Jets stay at 17, I think it'll come down to DHB (Maryland WR Darrius Heyward-Bey) and Pettigrew. Both would fill a need, but the super fast DHB has the potential to be more of an impact player than a very good blocking tight end. - By the way, Dorian Boose and Alex Van Dyke don't belong on the list of all-time Jets draft busts. They were bad picks, but they were both second-round picks -- a far cry from being bad first-round picks. - Starting to get a feeling that Cards WR Anquan Boldin is going to end up with the Ravens. - How would you feel if the Jets came out of the draft with Quinn and Heyward-Bey? Not out of the question. Or would you prefer Clemens throwing to Boldin? Hmmm
Alex Van Dyke was early 2nd round -- the 1st pick, I believe, as we took him the same year we took Keyshawn?? And yes, he was a bust. I'll never forget his fumble in the 1998 AFC Championship game (after a Vinny completion over the middle). It happened late in the 4th when we were desperately trying to mount a comeback which would have put us in the Super Bowl.
I'm sorry I do not buy this QB crap. Just look at the above report and how ridiculous it is. The Jets are interested in Campbell and Quinn... oh yeah, also they want to trade up for Sanchez, but they really like Harvin at #17, but if they stay at #17 Heyward-Bey or Pettigrew will be their choice. This report is absurd.
lol, yea i agree I think the point there is, no one knows what will play out in the end. The Jets likes drama during the NFL drafts.
I wont be able to see the draft. That may be a good thing. Pretty sure the Jets would have to give away just about everything to get all the way down to pick up Sanchez. I love typing his name, because it is my own. And would love to get his jersey if he was a Jet. Just dont see it happening.
How many people complained about the Alex van Dyke pick at the time? I remember it as being a popular pick.
I believe Armani Toomer went right after Van Dyke. Those tidbits, minus the QB stuff, completely suck. I don't want Harvin, DHB, or Boldin. And they won't help this team at all.
It's just a case of Cimini practically hearing all the rumours that we are hearing, and just putting them in one article. If we put together a article based on the past 20-30 topics in this section, it would probably come out a lot similar to that article, probably add in a few more names like Moreno and we are there.
Keyshawn was drafted in Rd 1...........another receiver(Alex Van Dyke) in Rd 2, wasn't the popular pick. Tony Brackens, DE was the most popular chioce by fans for the Jets in Rd 2. FWIW, a few picks later Amani Toomer and Mike Alsott were taken.
I think if we end up with an NFL experienced QB on day one, Clemens will be sold for a 4th round pick on day 2.
It's amazing - there has only been one credible observed source regarding the QBs - Ryan...and he said he was very happy and impressed with his two Qbs Ratliff and Clemens. Maybe it's me, but I'll take that honesty over all this BS rumors. I know - "smokescreen" - I don't buy it. Rex has the rep of not BSing. The Jets stay put at QB. (Disclaimer: if they do get a QB, I agree that you have to trade away Clemens - the poor guy has been dicked around for too long).
I don't see any way we can get a 4th rd pick for Clemens. We'd be lucky to get a conditional late rd pick if we try to trade him.
